Do you need to jack up car for water pump replacement?

Post by calivibes55 »

Hi all,

I have an 07 first gen and am prepping for water pump replacement.

Wondering, can you do this job from the top or do you need to jack up the car/remove left front wheel and splash shield for access?

Thanks!!

No need to jack up the car. It's easier to access the serpentine belt if you remove the passenger side front wheel and the engine splash shield. The work can be done from the top. Remove the fan and the alternator for easier access to the pump.

Great, thanks for the reply! I've seen it done both ways. Looks like there are a few bolts that you can't really see from the top but a deep socket reaches them fine.

There are some bolts behind the water pump seeing from the top. But you can feel them and loose/tight them with a deep socket.
