2ZR-FE Water Pump

Post by gtv237 »

I made the mistake of replacing mine as preventative maintenance. Since then I've had nothing but problems. The first few times the seal started to leak. I replaced it with one from Toyota and it hasn't leaked since but now the bearing went out on the pump. This thing is less than a year old with roughly 7,000 miles. I even used a krikit gauge to tension the belt to spec so I know it wasn't too tight. Should I go back to the original sheet metal design? Are the aluminum ones just trouble or what?

Are you referring to the impeller on the pump? You may want to try a rebuilt water pump. Any water pump bearing problems I have seen on cars are caused by a leaking ceramic seal assembly in the pump, a defective bearing, or over tension on the belt.
