Bright yellow fluid .... what is it?

Post by poyota_apprentice »

I have had this situation 2x now... 2004 AT Base 2WD.....I have had a situation where my car sat overnight and I started it in the morning. after it warmed up i backed out of the driveway and noticed a spot in the snow which was bright yellow?.... that was like 3 weeks ago. Then it did it again yesterday where it was parked and by the sidewalk. I dont see it when i park in the street or at work, but im perplexed as to what it is. oh and no I dont have a dog lol...... any ideas what fluid could possibly be bright yellow and leak from underneath the car?

That would be brake fluid. You might want to get that sorted out ASAP.

It may be an aftermart brand of coolant. All the brake fluid I've used has been clear and turns brown with age.

Sounds like your basic Prestone to me... though there might be a hint of green in there. Prestone has an iridescent look to it.I would check any hose clamps that may have come loose. Then check for any leaky hoses. The car is nearly 8 yrs old now and it might be time for some hose replacement.

I say antifreeze/coolant. Some of it is a fluorescent yellow/green color. I've never seen yellow brake fluid.

I would suspect the coolant as well. might set a piece of card board under over night to see if you can more precisely i.d. the location of the leak.

Opps - I think my 68+ year old brain is not working - I think it was Prestone Brand washer fluid that was yellow. - not RainX.Just did a quick internet look - the Prestone is yellow.
