Predered time of Oil Change

Post by smartin53 »

Prior to owning my vibe I've owned a VW New Beetle for the last 2 years. On the beetle they recommened an oil change every 5000 miles. Now on the Pontiac info they have 2 options. Heavy - 3000 mile oil changes and Freeway/Light 7000 oil changed. Now I have to admit I fall more in the Freeway driver area but Don't particularly like waiting 7000 miles. Would 5000 miles still be ok for the vibe or are the engines just so different that they just have different milage requirements.

Every 3k is great....probably over-cautious but definately not a bad thing.....7.5k is probably do-able so there is nothing wrong w/ doing 5k...thats probably a very reasonable thing to do.

I changed mine at 2000 for the first change, then will change again at 5000, and then I will change every 5000 miles after that. I also fall more into the light duty catagory. Even though I live in Chicago, I always drive the opposite direction of traffic.

I change mine at 35,000 miles or one year. That's the honest truth.

No there is no need to. The 3,000 mile oil change is only a myth the oil company's made up so as to make you change your oil more often making them more money. It's not needed. The same vehicles we drive here are being driven 12,000 to 15,000 miles in Europe and they are trying to get it raised to 18,000.I use Amsoil who has been recommending 25,000 mile oil changes since 1972. I'm saving a tremendous amount of money. I'm saving a lot of time not working on my vehicle. My vehicle gets slightly better gas mileage and the engine will last long because of the less friction that is happening along with a cooler running engine and trany.http://www.PerformanceMotorOil.comhttp: ... /nine.html
