Those who have changed the oil on their 09 2.4 L vibes, is there anything special about the change like lack of filter supply or anything?

The aftermarket parts stores will probably not have any parts for your car yet. I have an 09 base with 1.8L engine. The local GM dealership could not locate an oil filter for my car. I went to the local Toyota dealership, and they had them in stock and was only $5.12. The 09 1.8L engine has a replaceable oil filter element and the 09 2.4L engine has the standard spin on oil filter can.

Just did mine for the first time last weekend. Easy as it gets.... once you get the right filter. Had to jack the V up a little to get under it was the only minor hassle. That agrees with Fram's web site. It's also, unfortunately, wrong. BTW.... if you can't find the '09 Vibe on Fram's site, it's because it's under "Pontiac trucks", ending the "is it a wagon" debate once & for all. The correct filter is a Fram PH4386, which Fram specs for the Matrix & Scion. Check the pic below, the filter that came off is in the middle... Another topic of discussion has been the oil recommended on oil filler caps.... here's mine, which exactly matches the owner's manual... The best part of the whole thing is all the oil runs straight down, nothing under the filter to spread it all over everywhere. Hope that helps.

If you plug the Toyota part number for the filter into Fram's site it comes up with PH4967. Not to start a debate but many engine enthusiasts also consider the Fram to be one of the poorest made filters out there

i'm just gonna replace it with the GM filter.....

Well you can buy the GM filter, in my area it is almost twice what Toyota charges for the EXACT SAME filter In fact when I bought one from the GM dealer it IS a Toyota filter in a GM box.

OK, so why the 5w20 and 0w20 on the oil fill cap? I understand about the cold temperature necessity to make it as thin as possible, but geez, isn't 5w thin enough? Can some tell me what I should use in the temperate mid-Atlantic?

can I ask what type of wrench did you use to undo the oil filter on the 2.4?

In an attempt to make the engine more fuel efficient, Toyota started to specify a thinner oil just like Honda. When Toyota started to specify the thinner oil, a few changes were made to the engine to accommodate the thinner oil. A plastic block spacer was placed in to the cylinder coolant passageway to help even out the water temperatures and get rid of hot spots. Piston oil squirters were installed to keep piston temps down and to improve on wrist pin lubrication.I read on Bobistheoilguy, that 0w20 rated oils are made from higher quality basestocks to get that 0w rating. Personally, I run Shaeffer's oil 5w-20 7000 series oil. It hasn't burned a drop of oil and my engine runs very smoothly.

So the model number for fram is PH4386 four sure doing my oil this weekend and dont have time to go to toyotathe only reason i ask is when i checked frams site and cross referenced the toyota filter in the pic and got PH4967

When changing oil and filter, I only had to put just under 4 quarts back in.

Of course, anyone who is hardcore Subaru know's Peaty and he prefers WIX Filters.
