The other day I decided it was spring oil change time. And with winter + pandemic, it was a super short OCI this time. Dumped out ~4 qt of perfectly good Maxlife 5W-30 from October that had a whole 803 miles on it. Yeah, I know I could/should have ran this much, much longer... What can I say, I was bored!

And ZOMG ORANGE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

First time I've used one of those in 20+ years. Hey, it was convenient and inexpensive to acquire during these dangerous times. The engine grenaded before I could get it backed off the ramps, amirite?

Found some distilled water, was thinking doing some cooling system work this weekend but mother nature isn't going to let those shenanigans take place.

Picked it up (2004 Vibe GT) from my buddy's local garage/business where they made several repairs to it. They were slow due to the covid-19 pandemic and needed the work. Details here .... viewtopic.php?f=12&t=46475&p=529061#p529061

Today I drained the transmission fluid and oil and then put in a new filter. Next I filled the oil and transmission fluid. I'll be doing another transmission fluid drain/fill in a week or two because you only get about half of it each time.

I last had the oil changed in Puerto Vallarta. They torqued the cap for the cartridge style filter on there hard enough I had to bust out the air tools. Why can't people use a torque wrench and get it right? It's supposed to be 18 ft lbs, not 180.

I didn't think there was a torque spec for our Gen 2 Vibes with the plastic cup over the paper filter. Once it turns and hits the metal, that's it. There is a metal clip that is supposed to hold it in place and keep it from unscrewing but I never figured out what it did since my clip doesn't come close to the plastic slots that surround the outer cup.

I washed and detailed mine a little bit yesterday. Got some life changes coming in about 5 weeks, so will be the only chance I have to make it look pretty this summer lol
