Haha nice. I did a little jerry-rigging this weekend as well. My t/o bearing was chirping pretty bad so I sprayed it down with some white lithium grease. Its quiet now!Toyotiaction wrote:Fixed the under shifter compartment. The latch stopped latching this weekend. I brought the tray/cubby into work and fixed it on my lunch break at my desk.
Popped off the 2 screws, noticed where the spring is held in by a ridge of plastic. The ridge broke. I made a small hole in the side where the ridge was, bent the spring to fit in the hole and put it all back together. Good as new.
I'll be visiting Chicago next week and I'm looking forward to the break in heat and humidity! Its been in the 90's here!vibenvy wrote: I probably won't be doing any more painting anytime soon as the weather is supposed to get hot and humid .
If you have time, we should meet up! I'm assuming you still have my number? If so, text me and let me know if / when you'll have some free time.09vGT wrote:I'll be visiting Chicago next week and I'm looking forward to the break in heat and humidity! Its been in the 90's here!
I was thinking about getting one also, but I was thinking about swapping out the muffler for a flowmaster, due to problems that I have read about with the magnaflow ones. Let me know if you have any problems with it.vibenvy wrote:Last Friday I had a Magnaflow catback exhaust (#16849) installed on my Vibe ! I ended up getting an amazing deal from HottExhaust. They sent me a coupon code for $146.xx off the exhaust and they offer free shipping, so the exhaust cost me $440.87 and my exhaust guy charged me $60.00 for the install. Not bad at all if you ask me!
It sounds amazing. It's very mellow and barely louder then stock. Just the sound (or lack thereof) I was looking for! The fit is also great. It tucked up against the underbody very snuggly and the new muffler is about half the size of the OEM muffler so it hides great up under the rear bumper cover. I will post pictures later on this week/weekend...
A little bit of Peel and Seal on the door skin and such can do miracles for the sound quality.http://www.lowes.com/pd_154017-81326-PS ... I'll be replacing it soon, and the driver's side rear as a precaution as well. A driver's door handle replacement isn't far off either, the keyhole cover is barely hanging on as it is.
And since the rear door panels shall be removed, I will install new speakers in the process. I suspect I will not be winning any sound competitions with a $39 set of Kenwood 6.5's I ordered today. But it should be a considerable improvement being that the fader has been shifted fully to the front for the last 7 years or so when the OEM's gave out.
From everything I have read online, Magnaflow is the only company that makes a muffler that mounts sideways and has the inlet and outlet on the same side (which is how the OEM setup on the 2009-2010 Vibe is). So far, the exhaust still sounds great except for a rattle that's developed right under the center console (I'm assuming it's coming from the connection between the catalytic converter and exhaust). I've got to stop and see my exhaust guy one day this week, but I'm not worried about it. It's more than likely something hitting a heat shield or something goofy like that, but boy does it sound like crap when you accelerate . I registered the exhaust online with Magnaflow, so if any issues do arise, I will definitely be contacting them and posting about it here on GV.kaflex wrote:I was thinking about getting one also, but I was thinking about swapping out the muffler for a flowmaster, due to problems that I have read about with the magnaflow ones. I tried rock auto but they don't have the seals available. I don't think any aftermarket company makes them yet. Luckily Toyota got it right this time. I got It all buttoned up yesterday after work.vibrologist wrote:You are making good progress. show us a picture of that disc.
Sometimes I check for compatibility of a part by searching a catalog under both vehicles to see if the part number matches. Rock Auto is a good place to do that.
Hmmmm ... I knew the Vibe had parts from all over the globe. Nice to see some German engineering went into the Vibe as well So you grew up over in Germany not far from that facility? Guess you're now a Loooong way from homevibrologist wrote:
By the way if anyone cares to know: LuK stands for Lamellen und Kupplungsbau. They are located in the area where I grew up. They are a major employer there.

Yeah, it's a really nice setup! I am very pleased with it! One of these days I will get the Vibe washed and post some pictures of it installed.gtv237 wrote:And hey vibenvy, that exhaust looks remarkably nice for an aftermarket!
That's most certainly a true statement!vibrologist wrote:There are only 2 kinds of Vibe owners: those who have replaced their fog lights and those who will replace their fog lights. Today I officially crossed over.
That's why I had trouble finding them! I might buy a sheet of lexan cut out two covers and mount them in front of the lenses.ColonelPanic wrote:That's most certainly a true statement!vibrologist wrote:There are only 2 kinds of Vibe owners: those who have replaced their fog lights and those who will replace their fog lights. We were fortunate enough to be old timers and got a set of ToolGuy's fog light protectors while he was still around. Many years later, they're still good!
Here is an opportunity to apply the epithet in my signature.cptnsolo77 wrote:Its hard to match paint on a older car. Even if you buy the correct color the paint on your car has faded over the years from the elements. Impossible to get a match
Heck, even when the car was a couple years old the GM touch-up paint still didn't match. Multiple batches of the correct paint over the course of a decade and none of them looked right. Quite strange!cptnsolo77 wrote:Its hard to match paint on a older car. Even if you buy the correct color the paint on your car has faded over the years from the elements. Impossible to get a match
Nice. I use to live in Erie. Visited PA last year for the first time in 9 years. I miss the change of seasons.kaflex wrote:drove about 5 hours to erie, pa
It is louder, but no way as loud as an air horn. That air horn may save your life some time. What are you riding? (hint: post in "The Others")KevinV wrote:vibrologist,
Nice modification. Do you notice a dB increase? I installed a Stebel air horn on my motorcycle and man, what a difference.
