buy a "clock spring"

Post by jamesmetairie »

2005 vibe(base model) about 120,000 miles on it.

never wrecked. airbag light is on.
my longtime mechanic put his new fancy scanner on it and says the "clock spring" is the problem.

every where I call they tell me it,s a dealer part.

what kind of options have you folks been doing to safely replace or repair it?

is gmpartsdirect.com a honest palce to buy it?

thanks for any advice.

I've purchased parts from GMpartsdirect before. They are great, but they tend to run a bit expensive. The Toyota parts direct sites sell them for similar or higher prices.

I'm with Jolt here, pick up the part on eBay or Amazon. The Toyota part number is 8430602110.

Dorman makes clock springs, I was looking at their catalog yesterday. Try their site.

Have you had your airbag recalls done?

Success, I think.

This is our 2nd Vibe and I,m about dizzy with airbag recalls.
Anyway=-
My honest mobile mechanic used his new scanner and got the code for clock spring=1811??

I ordered from newgmparts.com
It,s (made in mexico) , exact duplicate of the original.
He installed it today and the airbag light is no longer lite up.

The battery was disconnected so I,m going through the motions of relearning. After several miles and start and stop the idle is smoothing out at about 850 or 900 rpm,s with the a/c turned on at a stop.
As always =--Thanks to all you folks for the advice.

The rough idle is common when the battery is disconnected. Let it run, and stumble, (without the ac on) for a few min, and the computer will relearn.

Glad you got it fixed up :)
