Yellow cable behind glove box

Post by Fatalmasterpiece »

Hello,

While replacing the cabin air filter on my 2004 Vibe I discovered this yellow cable dangling freely behind the glove box. I have no idea what it is for?
I have a 2004 Vibe GT with the Moons and Tunes package but no sub.

The only cables I know of under the passenger side dash that are wrapped in ribbed yellow plastic are for the airbag.

Did you recently have the passenger side airbag recall work completed? If so, bring it back to the dealer.

I wouldn't try to reconnect on my own, due to the potential for accidentally triggering the airbag.

Any check engine or airbag lights on?

Definitely an air bag wire. Did you take it in for the recall?

Yep, any yellow wiring, etc in a vehicle is always airbag-related.

No I haven't taken it in. I just purchased the car with 121k miles for $4k. After doing some research I really wanted a vibe :)
Hmm... I wonder if the previous owner detached it themselves or took it in for the recall and the mechanics left it detached.

Go to your friendly GM dealer and have them look up if the recall has been done. Let them check for all recalls. My guess is that the PO disconnected the airbag so a passenger would not get killed by it. It's a Takata airbag and you probably heard about the millions of cars being recalled.

You may check the status of open recalls for your Vibe online. You'll need the VIN...

You should have an SRS light on as well or somebody's really monkeyed with the system.

I do see the little airbag light is on, so that must mean that it's disengaged right? I'll definitely call about the airbag recall etc.
