Smooth Look Subwoofer

Post by 03GTMatthew »

Hey guys, I'm a recently New 2003 Vibe GT Owner. :D Happy as can be!!!
I'v already done some projects to it :D This project was all Audio.

There's plenty of Topics for audio and changing radios.. So I won't go in to much details about my Stereo..

I changed the whole audio of the car. JVC Bluetooth/USB/Pandora/iPhone Stereo (no CD player) I use the USB on the front with a Micro 16gb USB Flash Drive (That's a lot of space for anyone's music taste :D )... Kenwood Speakers Front doors and MTX speakers rear doors. And as you can see from the pictures, 12" Alpine Subwoofer.

I did not use Crossovers for the speakers. Used the stock wiring and its working great with the stock amplifier under the passenger seat.

I didn't want to have my amplifier to really be seen or in the way, power cords showing as I'v seen in the past.

To hide the amplifier it did take some time and also a BRAND NEW SMALLER AMPLIFIER :D (7 X7 X2inches)

So I started from the battery and pushed the wire threw the boot to the foot panels and then brought it down under the door panels and all the way back under the back seats. Used zip ties to keep away from gas pedals and under hoot to keep way from moving/hot parts.

Unfortunately the AMP kits I found locally only came with 17" of power wire, and it took about 20" to wire it without showing wires. :( Had to buy 2 kits (now I'v got spare parts I guess)

I did take out the floor panels to drill holes for the wires. (While the panels were out, I shop vacuumed out the body of the car and took the panels inside to bleach them off)

When I was trying to find a grounding spot, wasn't easy to do, so I drilled my own hole.
Its located behind the seat on the metal "hump"under the panels. (I Forgot to take a picture so hopefully will get around to it soon.) Also the ground wire wasn't long enough to go to the drilled hole so I used the extra power wire. (DOUBLE DOUBLE check when plugging in to amp what is what!!!) Also I took a hand sander and sanded the paint off the body of my drilled hole for a Good Ground. Used a bolt and nut to secure it to the body.

The Speaker wire for the subwoofer was also a little tricky. I didn't want to drill a hole up threw the floor panel, just encase I do sell the Vibe (but I love it to much to do that!) so I drilled holes in the both the spare tire compartment and also the small compartment behind the seats, and just left out the plastic cover for the Tie downs.

For the Amplifier I looked for a digital Amplifier that would stay cool and give me enough punch to satisfy the money spent on this project. :D The Alpine MRV-M500 was just the perfect choice! I have had the Alpine 12" box for YEARS and replaced a blown alpine 12" with a slightly used Alpine Type-R that was in a Dual subwoofer box... Specs are 500 watts RMS and the alpine amplifier is 500 RMS. (532 on the certificate of testing for quality and control) So the Amplifier pushes more power then the Subwoofer :D

Iv had this install for a couple months+ and I LOVE IT! So easy to move the Subwoofer if I need to get to spare tire or to haul anything. And my sound quality is amazing!

ONLY 3 Pictures So I Will Try To Comment The Other Pictures

I'm looking forward at some of the feedback :D
