Routing rear USB to storage compartment

Hi there,

I'm thinking of installing a JVC AV60BT DVD HU into my 2003. This unit has a rear USB dongle which I would like to route to the little storage compartment underneath the shifter (I hope that makes sense). Has anyone else done something similar? I have zero clue how easy or difficult this may be, so if anyone has any tips, I'd love to hear them!

Thanks!

Scott

If a lead doesn't come with the headunit, all you'd need is a USB extending cord. It plugs into the USB port on the rear of the receiver, and has another USB port that you can place anywhere.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I'll be using an extension, but I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for routing the cable to the storage compartment under the shifter. I've never done anything like that before and I'm not sure the best/easiest way to do it. :)

I used a wire fishing rod and went from the bottom up. there is quite a bit of space under the dash, but, you will have to figure out a way to keep the compartment closed if you run the cable through the rear of the compartment. The fit is tight between the storage compartment and the dash when the compartment is closed, so any little bump and the compartment pops open. I was forced to route mine beside the compartment. later I'm going to try and find a way to move it up higher, or over to the compartment to the left of the steering wheel.

It won't be very tough to do. It's surprisingly 'open' behind the dash right there.

If it's too tough to get it through the center of the dash, you can route it down the right side between the center dash and glovebox. It'll make sense when you remove the center trim. The lower plastic trim also comes off if you need more room for routing.

I have mine routed straight out the back of my HU down and in the storage compartment. I didn't have any issue period and mine was very easy to see and grab. Yo should have not problems at all.

That's good to know! I'm guessing I may need to pop out the storage holder/cup and drill a hole in the back to feed the wire through?
