My custom sub install in 04 vibe

Post by macantley »

well after a few weeks of searching for a factory sub setup with the plastic interior trim failed i decided to build a custom sub enclosure, my wife made one thing clear, absolutely NO trunk space was to be used/lost because of a sub install, well i may have used "alittle" bit of the trunk space (or hatch space as it would be)After about $75-100 worth of fiberglass and wood materials, alot of cutting on a extra side plastic panel and alot of time spent with fiberglass and bondo, i can say that myself and my wife are happy with the outcome.the sub is only temporary, i plan on putting a better one in once the funds build back up, i have approx. .85 cubic foot of airspace which is very small for a 12" woofer, but im sure something out there will require that amount of space.anyway here's the photo's.

Hey man, that looks good! Is it heavy enough to stay put in there or did you fasten it to the side?

Infinity kappa perfect 12dvq can run in a box .75ft3 sealed. Essentially the box can be smaller than the sub itself. Lol. It also handles something like 1600 watts. It's a big SOB so it may be too much for what you are planning. Research accordingly.

Great use of space. Where will the amp be mounted? Under a seat?

The amp is mounted under the passenger seat, its a sony mobile ES 3046 amp (30x4 RMS at 4OHM) its a 1ohm stable amp, old school sony audiophile amp. ive considered building another one for the other side, but not sure if i want to or not, it took me about 20-22 hours to build this one, so about 10 days of working with spare time, the wooden frame under the fiberglass is what probably took the longest to build. Ill definatly be looking into the infinity sub
