HID issue

Post by Merzbow »

I bought a cheap HID kit off ebay a while back. They work great as far as the brightness is concerned but I wanted blue ones like 8000K or 10,000K and they kept sending me white.First set of bulbs said 6000k and was yellowSecond set of bulbs said 10,000K and was whiteThird set of bulbs said 30,000K and was identical to the second kit in color! (white)First of all theres no such thing as 30,000K, that would be like ultraviolet (removed)! It would light peoples cars on fire. So obviously there's an issue with this particular kit.Now the problem is that my friend bought a kit for his bike and they were the wrong bulb size so I tried them on my Vibe hoping they were the temperature I wanted. He got 8000K which would be perfect for me. I plugged them in real quick and of course they were white and not blue...and that's when I got confused.I can't imagine it would have anything to do with my car but it's kind of hard to believe I've tried two different kits from two different manufacturers that were BOTH mislabeled and BOTH the wrong temperature!!!! I'm starting to get pissed off. There's always some issue I run into with everything I do and who would have thought I would have so many issues with something as simple as headlight bulbs

8000k will look very blue when your looking at the headlight but it will still have quite abit of white still in it showing on the road way.the 30000k should have been purple. This post is more of a vent post than a question post lolsorry your having such an issue.

6000 is definitely white, that's what i'm running on my G6 in my lows, highs, and fogs.

Yeah I was thinking about that but it was also looking at anyone else that may have had the same issue with different kits since a lot of people have them.Out of all the spectrums I've seen, there is no 30,000K. if 6000 is white, 8000 is blue, 10,000 is somewhat blue, 12,000 and 14,000 is purple from what I've seen. I know there is green too but 30,000k is WAAAAAAAAAAY up from the rest of the spectrum so does it really exist? If so why would it be white on my car....

Merz,When you tried your friend's 8K's did you use your ballast or the ballast he had? Did your friend try firing them up when he first got them? I'm trying to think back when I got my kit for my bike... I want to say mine are 6k's and when I first fire them up they are more blue/purple, and then once warm are really white...

I tried with my ballasts and then I hooked his ballasts up. both yeilded the same white color. These are all white right from the beginning.

too bad I didn't live closer, I'd ride over and see what happens with my bulb that's in my bike. You've got me. unless everyone is lying about their bulb color I would think that the 8k's would show up at least some blue, and definitely the 10k's should have been blue... maybe you just need to keep them on and let them burn in.. I can see why this would be frustrating, esp. since I know you had been wanting them for quite a while.

I doubt this will help but, the wave length of visual light is about 450nm-750nm.
