Please help me diagnose this sound

Post by BigPappa »

I have a 2009 Pontiac vibe 2.4 that makes this awful noise infront of the passenger side area. That only happens when I'm braking or at idle but once in park it goes away. The ac and fan are off and still does the noise can someone help me please ? I look under the hood and can't find the same noise.
110K miles
No check engine
No overheating

Below is my reddit post with the the video thank you

Thanks for the video. I like u/Lakeshore_Patriot's idea of looking at the exhaust. You might want to check the motor and transmission mounts, because they can cause excessive movement of the exhaust and cause an issue like that. However, the mounts themselves will not make this type of noise.

You'll laugh, but check the idler pully. (mechanic's stethoscope, cardboard tube). Have someone shift the gears while you listen.

I have something similar happen with this Vibe, and the previous Vibe. Noisy when braked, but if I put it in idle, it goes quiet.
