Every time I turn my AC ON I start smelling burning rubber. At first I thought it was my AC clutch going out. Then I was told it is probably my compressor seizing up. Where is a good place to get a new compressor? I figure it's going to be a pricy item. I use the Vibe to tow behind my motorhome, so I need it to work when we go places in the heat of the summer.
If your compressor is seized, you should be able tell by turning the AC on and looking under the hood. I'd imagine it would make an awful noise, and would be bad for the life of the serpentine belt. If turning the AC on gives you cold air, then the compressor isn't seized.
It's involved to swap a whole compressor if you don't have the tools to capture the refrigerant before and vacuum the system after.
sorry its been 3 months since you asked, if you got it fixed, let us know what it took
