Code P0016 2007 vibe, 1.8L, 1ZZ

Post by waypastmidnight »

Pontiac vibe 2007
194K miles
1.8L, 1zz engine
Check engine light on. Code P0016 (cam/crank position sensor correlation)

I have this code tripped. The car starts and runs fairly smooth. No noticeable misfiring, loss of power, ect.
Pulled the oil pan and cleaned out. There was a fair amount of oil sludge blocking off the screen. At startup I get a pretty good rattle sound when the engine turns over, wondering if maybe the chain tensioner is not working or if there is an issue with the vvt/ocv valve/filter. Is there any good way to rule out a stretched timing chain? Anything else that could cause that code to trip? Would appreciate any input before I start randomly pulling components. Thanks

thats what your intake & exhaust cam sensors look like basically, theres screens on both.if your oil screen was crudded up more than likely thay are also.Theres some good articles on this forum I remember reading so check around for the info.Sound like the oil wasn't changed often enuff causeing most of your problems.
