actuator door clicking, question=-

Post by jamesmetairie »

2004 base Vibe, 108,000 miles on it.
For awhile now the vent fan doesn,t want to start up. So we just leave it turned on low speed when the Vibe is parked.

Now some clicking started with the actuator door. On Recirculation (max) it clicks.
It doesn,t click on any other selection.
Anyone try to just use it like that and if so, does it last or is that only a short time thing?

thanks for any advice.

Leaving it on/off recirculation works just fine as a bypass as long as you don't need to use the defroster lol. This is a very common problem. Many people remove it and flip the gear...I opted to replace it entirely. See here for info regarding replacing it.

Unfortunately my door is clicking again and the gear is already flipped. Haven't searched it yet but isn't there a PN for the gear or just the entire Assy (Which is $50 on Amazon).

I don't think any of us have a part # for the gear. Though, I did send Nick my old one and he was going to try to have new gears 3D printed..I'd check with him to see if he has made any progress on that.

I have been having this same problem for about two years now and I have never bothered to looked into it because I thought it started after I broke the yellow connector to the cable the goes into the back of the recirculation button housing. So you are saying it is the gear that is the problem? Or is the gear wearing out due to another part failing?

most agree it is a white plastic gear inside the actuator the just wears out and the teeth wear down . and they don,t catch.
