fried something?

2004 pontiac vibe auto 2wd 1.8l

was in a rush to get out the other night and hooked up booster cables backwards on my vibe blew the main fuse and a few others now that i replaced the fuses my starter kicks on as soon as i put the fuse in and my fog lights won't shut off ? could erally use some direction here

Try and go over your all your fuses again.

went over them all replaced everything
now theres nothing when i turn the key and fog lights stay on
i can hear the starter relay is working starter dosnt turn

i found a parts car but how do i check if parts are the same?
here are the vin numbers

my local dealer is giving me a hard time with help seems they just want me to take the car in

Did you replace the 100A Fuse?

The dealer is not going to give out free advice over the phone. They need your car there in order to charge $110/hour to diagnose the problem.

is there a fog light relay?
ignition relay maybe?

That would have been too easy.

I would rule out bad relays by switching around ones with the same rating.

Other possibilities are a fried alternator, fried ECM, short in the wiring somewhere.

I've tracked down a pcm for 150 but i was saving that for a last resort kinda

Hook up a scanner and see if you have communication with the key on.

check engine light isn't on and it wasn't reading any codes

Fog Light relay may be on the passenger side under the dash.
Take the glove compartment out, stick your head in and look up.
Sorry I don't know exactly what fuses or relays are there but that's where you would do your 'fog light always on' mod.

Will the engine turn over? Can you communicate with the ECU while the ignition is on?

like i said above my running lights are stuck on
and when i turn my key everything turns on in the dash but when i go to start it nothing
i do hear the ignition relay clicking.
we hooked up the reader to it and it did have communication with the ecu

You can visit http://www.vindecoder.net/ and check the trim levels. As long as the engine and transmission are the same and model years fall in the same family ('03 to '08) or ('09 to '10) then the only differences in parts will be minor, 03-04 have a different grille than 05-08 vibes. Other than that, all parts should swap.

Ouch, you'll be very lucky if you didn't fry something important. If your reader is connecting fine to your ecu then you might have lucked out and it's ok. I'm not sure about your '04 but my '06 always has the DRLs on except when I switch to low beam manually or the light sensor does it automatically. Are you saying that your DRL's stay on even when your key is out of the ignition? If you have a voltmeter with a continuity tester you can check a few things. Measure the voltage of the battery, both with key out and have someone check it while you try to start. It's possible you seriously maimed the battery by applying reverse current to it and it doesn't have enough juice to turn the starter. You can also check continuity on the major fuses and wires to see if something is toast. There is a good possibility of damage to the alternator. Good luck!

no after checking it was my running lights that would always stay on even with the key out also the starter would turn over and keep turning over with key out . when i put the key in the car would start but starter keeps turning . after messing with it a bit the starter stopped working all together

Remove the starter and have it tested at autozone or something. IF IT TESTS OK, IT IS STILL GOOD, don't do what my BF's granddad did and replace it anyway only to find out it was a cheaper issue.
