Vibe financing went up...

Post by elkhaze »

strange to see the Vibe financeing from GM is no longer zero for 5 years. Now it is 5.9% for 5 years. Not sure how they can compete with the Matrix.

They went back to the original financing options. When I bought mine it was 5.4% for 4 years and Toyota was 5.9% for 4 years.

Our 05 Vibe purchased almost 4 years ago was financed at 0% for 3 years. Fast forward to now:I think enough potential buyers of GM cars are holding out for that magical 0% or close to it to return. It is still happening south of the border. And haven't I read bits and pieces re our govt helping to ease the "credit crunch" thereby helping the auto industry and other big ticket purchases. That's got to push such interest rates down this spring.

I have not seen these ads. Assume my 1-12-09 purchase would not qualify anyway. And perhaps the "Vibe"s not an eligible vehicle" anyway. It was not an eligiible vehicle for the 0% 60 month financing..

And it might be the case that the Vibe is eligible for the free maintenance offer for more than 3 years. For example for the Saturn Astra you get 5 years of maintenance included but not the 2 year OnStar Direction and Connections package. Again it depends on the vehicle but I believe it is 3 years for sure on all 08 and 09 Chevy, Pontiac and Saturn...again for Canada.

The time value of money - $750 in hand today is perhaps $1,000 spread over 5 years.I had my 2003 Vibe for 6 years - spent less than $750 on "maintenance". The owner's manual includes an awful lot of "inspect this, inspect that".

If you read the fine print all that's covered by maintenance is oil changes and inspections. That's it. I suspect if you want synthetic they'll probably charge you extra for that too, so if you do your own oil then it's probably worth taking the $750.It does mean you can actually change your oil every 3 months, which I certainly won't be doing on my own dime.

5 years = 20 oil changes = $37.50 each. I can buy a 10 oil change card at my dealer for $190 plus 6.75% sales tax. Of course that is $US. Canada would probably be higher and have added VAT.
