I got a Vital rustproofing, it protects the bottom from stone chips and quiets down the car, they do in doors and engine compartment also. After that about every 2 years get a Krown spray done to keep it soft and prevent it drying out. A place in Whitby gives great pricing and good coverage on the bottom, it is like a wax.

I'm planning on doing the Krown rustproofing. This is my first new car so it will be a test to see how well it protects it as it ages. All my previous cars rotted out by 12 yrs with no rustproofing of any kind (except my mustang as it doesn't see winter).

There is a rust proofing group buying going on here:http://www.redflagdeals.com/fo...55812I am not related to this seller, but I will be participating once my car is delivered.

That is a good deal....if I lived in the GTA. I have been quoted $120 for Krown but it is a fixed price for the annual application.

Rust proofing is a obsolete service from a bygone error. If the dealer says it will void the warrantee, I believe it is true. If it wasn't, they would try to sell it to you for $500 like they used to. They can't sell it anymore because of the uselessness of the process (which the dealer doesn't care about) and the fact that it voids the warranty.

Hi,Ok , now I am confused..Is it a good idea or not to rust proof?

I think it can only help to prevent the onset of rust on your car (oil based stuff like krown or rust check). I still think it is a good idea if you can afford it. It will help your car last longer if you keep it and improve the resale if you decide to sell it. Trust me, trying to sell a 11 yr old minivan with rotted out rocker panels doesn't get you much. I could have doubled my selling price if the body was in good shape. I don't trust the dealer either. They will try to sell you their rust proofing, ours did but she didn't push it when I told her I wasn't interested. Also, at Krown if you rust proof before the car is 1 yr old and keep up with the annual applications they have a garrantee.

Has anyone arranged for a club discount with Krown? I hear that Igor at Lakeshore offers it to some of the Honda / Mazda forum users.

Very much worth the $, even though the last few winters have been not too bad - they throw just as much road salt across GTA roads. My 2000 Jeep TJ gets done every year at RustCheck and there is no rot under there at all, getting our new 09 done next month for sure, been taking our cars to the same guy for the last 20 yrs actually (RustCheck).
