Passing emissions with check engine light on

Post by chrisblues12 »

The check engine light has been on my 2004 Vibe for close to 2 years. It is one of those b.s. codes that don't affect the car.

My emissions test will fail if the check engine light is on.

Any advice on how to beat the test?

As far as I know P0BS is not an official code

What is the actual code you have not addressed in 2 years time?

My 03 has been throwing evap codes for years, and I have tried a few things but haven't fixed it. I live in an area where I don't have periodic emission testing, so it's been a low priority for me, but I understand what you mean by bs code that doesn't affect performance

Not sure there's a way to cheat the test, if there was it would depend on what specific code is being thrown.

It might come down to just having to fix the car

A few years ago in Colorado, my Subaru passed emissions with a knock sensor code. The seller assured me it would and it did. Not sure if that helps.

Had the P0171 code on the 2002 Rav4 and did everything the internet suggested: looked for vacuum leaks using starter fluid, cleaned all 4 O2 sensors with a torch, cleaned then replaced the mass airflow sensor, cleaned the PCV valve. Code kept on coming back. Took it to the local shop and they diagnosed it as fuel injector issue, since it was running lean.

Replaced all 4 injectors, cleared the code and happy motoring is back.

Ordered the 4 OEM (Denso) injectors on eBay for $55 USD. Didn't seat them properly on first try (fuel dripping), but got them seated on 2nd try. Job took around 35 minutes each time plus the drive around to make sure it's correctly done.

The code I cleared with a Blue Driver code reader (Model LSB2).
