Engine Stalls After Transmission Swap

Post by GTwannabe »

Hi all, I just completed a 2007 5mt to 2003 (Matrix) 6mt swap. The car starts and idles fine, but when I press the clutch pedal in the engine begins to stall, and will if I continue to press it further. Did I do something in reverse? If so how would I check easily.

-I replaced the clutch and flywheel during this job.
-shifts into all gears fine.
-slave cylinder appears to be operating fine.

I've been reading around on the internet. I was worried that maybe the Throw Out Bearing or Clutch Plate was installed backwards. I remember putting in the clutch plate backwards at first, then realizing this when it was difficult to get the pressure plate bolts started. So that shouldn't be an issue.

I'm not sure if the Throw Out Bearing would be causing an issue. Not entirely sure what is happening that would stall the engine when pressing in the clutch pedal. Wouldn't that be taking pressure off of the Flywheel and hence not stalling the motor :?:

Turns out I got my description a little backwards. What actually is going on is that the engine starts and now shifts, but has a drop of rpm, almost to the point of stalling, when releasing the clutch pedal (opposite of the first description). I adjusted the clutch pedal but this is still going on. I haven't put the tires on pavement yet, but in the air this drop in rpm was enough to stall the engine in 4th gear.

Brought the car into a shop. It was drive-able, but something felt bad. Shop said that something in the tranny is broken, possibly due to installation. I have a warranty on it so I will be returning the transmission to get some money back then parting out the vibe to see if I can at least break even with what I spent on repairs.

I will have most parts available, including a head unit, set of rims with tires, good engine with 160K, new clutch kit. PM me if interested.

That sucks. I don't know enough about it to be able to offer any useful advice on the stalling problem, hoped someone else would have weighed in.

I hope it all works out. If you part out the Vibe, what do you think you'll get to replace it?
