0-20 Synthetic oil in 2.4 Vibe GT Auto

Post by Viburass »

After a trip to the dealer (My Vette club has a deal there) for an LOF, I was surprised to see the synthetic oil listed as 0-20W...I didn't really notice until I jumped on the Freeway and nailed it...it felt a good bit quicker, but we know how that goes....so I just kept notes to myself for awhile....the mileage seemed better and it did indeed feel quicker. At about 3500 mi after the LOF I checked the oil to see if it was staying clean and whoops, it was down 1/2 Qt, but very clean, so I got another Qt of Mobil 1 and added 1/2....I took it in @ 5000+ and it was down 1/2 again ,but clean so I told them to do it again just like before.

When I looked at the bill at home, it had been filled with 5W DEXOS oil...cheaper, but what the hell.....will be calling asap to find out why....

Any users of Mobil 1 0-20W out there????

That's what I use. I don't know that I notice any difference between it and 5w20 but that's what's on the cap so that's what goes in unless I can't find any.

Yeah I do in both of our Vibes and our G8GT :D I think I may have used 5w-20 or 10w 30 ... I'll have to look.. Juniors Vibe is an automatic and sees the most mileage (college kid commuting and always on the go) plus his 2.4l engine burns a bit of oil so going synthetic will help it in the long run. Mine is a stick shift and gets driven very little. In fact I probably should change my oil sometime this summer as it's been just over 3 years ( roughly 7k miles) since the last oil change :x So far pleased with the results!

I have used 0w20 full syn in my 2010 2.4 from the beginning. I have always done my own maintenance. Have not had to add any oil between changes at 5000 to 6000 miles. Car has 42000 on it.
I have a spreadsheet that I keep track of gas mileage on, so it is spot on . . . no guessing. It says 30.07 MPG average over the 42000 miles.

I have about 137,000 on my '09 Vibe GT with the 2.4 four. I've used 0-20W synthetic oil since I purchased it and have to add oil in between changes, too.

I have an 09 gt with 2.4. I bought with 80k. I have oil consumption issues with 5 w 20. I went synthetic now back to dino using valvoline high mileage oil 5w30. I have 500 since last oil change so far not noticing consumption. Time will tell. Everything else I am using Mobil1 synthetic.
