noise from engine area=-

Post by jamesmetairie »

2005 base Vibe with about 99,000 miles.

hearing alot of noise from the engine area , passenger side , up forward.
no coolant loose ,etc.
belt tensioner looks ok. a/c is functioning ok and no noise difference when i turn it on or off.
my honest shady tree mechanic is scheduled for tomorrow.
i expect it may be the water pump or a/c compressor.

will update as things progress.

Merry Christmas to all.

water pump is an excellent guess. Mine went out at 80,000 miles. There was no coolant leak; just the spindle making noise. My mechanic tried to talk me out of it, but I insisted. Once they took the belt off and removed the water pump, you could quickly turn the spindle and hear the distinct noise of "sand in the bearings." It wasn't obvious when the engine was running, but obvious when your turned the spindle in a quiet room.
