Does the 2AZFE have a OCV / VVT filter and where is it? (thoughts)

Post by ctgottapee »

2009-10 2.4L owners, Anyone replace or clean the oil control valve filter?

The parts site list a part:
FILTER, Camshaft Position ACTR Solenoid Valve, Stock Code: 19185369
And have a nice diagram, but I can't find it on the back of the engine due to access

The plug/bolt spec is listed as: (M14X1.25, 13MM LONG)(22MM HD W/8MM HEX RECESS), so it should be larger than anything around it

What's needed is a rear view of the engine

my alldata online repair guide Lists replacing the filter as a maintenance item, but the hotlink takes it to the actual solenoid replacement located near the top of the engine.

Nope. Not yet anyways. Just got done looking over the recommended service procedures for our Vibes (from our owners manual) and there was NOTHING mentioned at all within the 150,000 mile interval schedule about this oil control valve filter. Maybe it is due to it likely never becoming plugged? Don't know and I won't for a long time due to the low mileage on my Vibe.

It's not listed as a standard procedure on any of the VVT engines in any toyota manuals.
My alldata repair guide has it as part of an engine diagnosis trouble tree.

One prior engines, the net is full of examples, pics, even videos, but for the 2AZFE, it is rather silent.
The Toyota parts sites have the same thing listed as the GM one, so it may just be an error copied over.

When I changed my VVT filter at 100K + miles it was clean. Most likely I didnt even have to change it. Im guessing if the vibe didnt get regular oil changes, it would have been a different story.

Found a view more engine views online,
....Would be nice to have a back side view, or a side view that lists all the parts and bolts

Then I took a barrage of pics, and pieced them together
The smaller image is a view looking down from the top of the engine bay, the second larger image is from the ground pointing up towards the backside from behind the passenger wheel. This is all that can be seen without taking off the intake manifold, and I don't see the filter bolt anywhere.
I numbered items in comparison to the prior diagrams

A is the plunger and it's two bolts, B is a bolt holding on the clip/hanger, C is the bolt holding in the solenoid; ?? is in the bottom of engine bay

Found a new pic that details all the gaskets for the engine area in a gasket rebuild kit

And again, this magical unicorn is shown - the bolt holding the filter in has a gasket. It's in line with the vertical orientation show in prior images above, about in line with the cooling intake where the thermostat is housed on the front.....

Maybe the Intake Air Manifold is hiding it as I kind find everything else but this [see pic above]

From another 2AZFE engine manual (RAV4), I find the first up close pic, although it doesn't help much.
The unicorn is in there somewhere it seems!!!
