I am very happy with my homemade one.A drop-in filter is a start, that's where I went at first. A CAI was the big and best step as of yet.I'm sure they will have a CAI out comparable in pricing to the 2003 models soon enough. Unfortunately it does take some time to get the ball rolling considering all the makes and models out there.
i can sell you my old one its only got like 4500 miles on it, before i put in the cold air intake. so now i have a filter for the vibe that i dont need. i have been lookin to get rid of it, i can clean it and oil it before i send it as well.yogi

you can also get them from schucks or napa auto stores relatively inexpensive. TRD makes a performance filter too. did you try ebay for the vibe and matrix? i know i've seen some on there before.
You might be interested in a AMSOIL drop in air filter. I have a test that was run on AMSOIL's 2 stage air filter and K&N air filter and the AMSOIL filter flowed just as well but filtered the air much better. It'll last the life of the vehicle because it only needs to be cleaned, reoiled and then installed again. They also make pod style air filters for CAI set ups. They are also cheaper!http://www.performancemotoroil.com/KN_test
Is the 03 filter the sme size as the 04? How much is the amsoil filter. For the cost of the intake kits and the horsepower gained I decided to do my own set up. If anyone wants details on how I am making it feel free to ask. Intake companies have a real challenge for themselves to make a intake kit for the 04 since the MAF is built into the airfilter lid. I only see two ways of them making a intake kit. 1. Include a new maf with the intake kit (could be expensive). 2. You wuld have to cut off the filter lid from the MAF and that could turn into a hack job.Chris

YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
Sorry I don't have digital camera. But it is really obvious if just look at you can see that the MAF is attached to filter lid. As far opening up the intake track I remove the silencer snake (which really has alot of bends and narrows down to about 1.5" in diameter a one point) and added more holes to the loxer box to allow more air flow in.
As previously stated, I will sneak a peek at the Ohio meet at one of the 04 models on the lot (if they let me) or if a member comes with an 04...just curious to see what changes are made under the hood...I'll get a digital picture for everyone else to see...as I'm sure others of us are curious as to this new design...

The snake silence tube that i was talking about will be very hard to see. It actually goes all the way up around behind the drivers side headlight. At that point it is easiest to see since it wraps around the battery and in the air box.
Well actually I may be wrong! After looking at your engine picks it looks the same as mine. If the sensor disconnects from the box the I would be wrong and the sensor would just have to be move onto the pipe with the bung on it to mount it. I am use to stand alone MAF's that are on f-body cars.Chris

I'll IM you for your address.quote:Is the 03 filter the sme size as the 04? How much is the amsoil filter. I don't know yet if the 03 will fit in the 04.I do know that the 03 Vibe and Matrix use AMSOIL 2 Stage air filter Part # TS 113 It runs $32.30. If your a preferred customer your price is $24.30. A member at matrixvibe.net bought one from me and is very pleased with it.http://www.matrixvibe.net/forums/viewto ... &highlight
