We all agree :D The only time you would NOT want to mix, is if you were faithfully having an oil analysis test performed after each oil change. The lab would then want to know the brand/viscosity of the oil for accurate test results. Other than that, completely harmless!

I do it he time. I use Castrol high mileage synthetic blend. When I top off in between oil changes I use Walmart super tech  No sense in topping off with expensive oil.

On my good cars, I just keep the viscosity the same on the oil, but not worry about the brand too much. On my Mustang that burned a quart every 500 or so miles towards the end, I used whatever cheap oil I could buy.

I have this concoction of 5W-30 that's a mix of a few years worth of leftovers. I don't recall how many brands it is composed of so it shall be for topoffs only.

I "feel" better if I keep it within the same brand in the hopes that the additive packages are similar. But not sure it really matters...

I do like to stick with one oil on cars with warranty.

You can, but then that defeats the purpose of your original fill. Especially if its a oil you trust in your engine. There is different additives in oil and that is what makes them unique. So essentially you could be watering down your oil with a lesser product.

I just did this with my transmission due to not having tightened the lines sufficiently. Pretty expensive mistake!
