tranny swap on manual 08

Post by WestC4 »

I have as my daily driver a 08 base vibe with a 5 speed trans. im pretty sure the gt's came with a 6 speed manual option. how big of a project would it be to swap a 6 spd from a gt into my 5 spd vibe?

is it fairly a direct swap out, or are the two models totally different with different tans?

anyone with this experience or knows someone who's done this any help would be duly appreciated

thanks

There are several threads on here about the swap, as it is a common upgrade on the 03-04 models that had a fragile manual transmission. The 5 speeds in the later years were much better and don't need replacement as much. It is basically a direct swap. The one bad thing about the 6 speed is that it does have different gearing and the RPMs in 6th are higher than on the 5 speed, so your fuel mileage does suffer a bit after the swap.

Thanks for the help. So the 5 spd in the 05-08 1st gen vibes are much stronger and more reliable than the ones in the 03-04 vibes? Thanks again for clearing this up for me, I won't bother with it if it's not worth the time and money
