C60 6 Speed options

Post by wolphcry »

2003 GT 6 speed 150K
Long story short. Bought a 2003 GT for $1,000 with a bad clutch. Replaced clutch without problem. Test drive after, car was un-drivable when bought, and I discover gears above 3rd are impossible to engage. Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bWKKYJ6ch0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Pull transmission and found bad shifting fork and 5 / 6 gears?

So questions,
Anyone have an average rebuild cost for shop or kit?
Is there a kit, I'm not having much luck finding anything online?
Used transmission options? I'm in Western Colorado and looking at driving to Denver if needed.

Thanks!

General wisdom is it's not worth it to rebuild them as cheap as they can be had used. Car-part.com. I see one in Denver for $900.

A place in Denver quoted me $500 to $1800 depending on whats wrong, but guessed the $650 range. I'm wondering if anyone had done it on their own? Doesn't look too bad. I've done one other manual transmission.

dont rebuild, get a used one.

just make sure its not a 5 speed....the c60 has the extra bit on the end of the belhousing which holds 6th/reverse, iirc

I found more problems in the transmission so did as suggested and bought a used one. Found one with under 98K shipped to CO for $750 from CA. Looks good. Should be up and going by the end of the week! Image
