CEL Blinking 201k miles

Post by msmyer »

201,000 miles later, took my Vibe in for the first (seroius) time in 10 1/2 years (since I bought it brand new) The CEL is blinking with a rough idle and sluggish ride over 40 mph. The CEL is throwing several codes of P0301 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected. Changed the spark plugs and it is still throwing the code. Took in to the mechanic 8 am this morning, wish me luck...

Hopefully it's just a bad ignition coil. Not too expensive and it's within your abilities if you can do the plugs.

If your mechanic is stumped, you can test it by switching the #3 coil w/ another one and see if the problem code switches to the other cylinder.

Yep...Bad ignition coil. What's a reasonable price for parts/labor?

Rock Auto has the coils available for less than $50 (each) + shipping.

Buying them locally should be around $100 or less.

It should only cost one our of labor to fix.

Man that is one reliable track record there ;) Glad I got myself a Vibe :) Also glad it was nothing major and easy to fix. You certainly got your money's worth out of this car. Keep it going for another 201K 8-)

There's been very few reports here of those coils failing.

Get it back and fixed yet?

Yep...It was the #3 ignition coil.

Back and fixed. Runs like new...

It was $256 total, with shop fees and tax.
