Engine mounts: Where are they?

Post by lannvouivre »

I've got a squeaking sound coming from the engine when I'm in drive which gets louder when I squeeze the brakes or shift from another gear to drive. I asked around and was recommended by the Toyota dealership guy that I check the engine mounts before actually taking it in for service as labor is really expensive.http://madstyle1972.com/Repair...n.pdfAre they in every spot where the mounting brackets are? I read that there's only one that is accessible only from below the car and would like to spend as little time under there as possible (I greatly dislike the idea of being under a raised car even if it's on jack stands).I really hope my questions aren't too dumb; I tried asking good ol' Dad about engine mounts but he claimed he didn't know anything. It's a 2006 base automatic.

There are four mounts. One on each "end" of the motor/trans assembly, thus far left and right, one in the front, directly behind the radiator, where the engine and trans meet, and the fourth one is about impossible to see, let alone access. It is located also in the middle, on top of the steering rack, just behind the differential.I initially though dropping the K frame would be the easiest access. After looking at the pics I took while replacing the sway bar, I realize dropping the K frame would not help at all. You may be able to see the mount by looking over the top of the motor and down behind it. It is aft of the inboard half of the differential housing. It sits on top of the steering rack on a horseshoe bracket that straddles the steering rack front to rear..Charles

Thanks a ton! Hopefully I'll be able to check these things quickly enough this weekend that dad won't get annoyed about having watch me and make sure I don't do anything dangerous.
