Tell us more about your car besides just the year. What engine are you running? any modifications to it? Are you having pinging problems? For me Shell is a good gas and I've never had problems with it. I pay a few pennies more for that comfort level. I can't say the same for other brands I've used and that includes some of the biggest retailers in the nation.Follow this link.... scroll down to page 5-5http://www.genvibe.com/images/...e.pdfDave

I buy based on price/convenience and have no particular brand loyalty

What are your opinions on ethanol in gas... personally I pay a little more for 100% gasoline. I've seen what ethanol does to the internals of the carburetor on my motorcycle and I really don't need to guess as to what it does to injectors or electric fuel pumps! And I like the red Kool-Aid better

RED kool-aid is only 87 octane.I like the PURPLE kool-aid (AVGAS) which is 115/145 octane much better (ha,ha)!

My limited experience (bought a '04 last September and have put about 5500 miles on it since then) is that I see a drop in mileage when I run a tankful of gas from Pilot or Loves travel centers. Name brand gas, mostly BP gives me slightly (.2 to .4 mpg) better mileage on average.I'm not a fan of Shell, however I do like the Ferrari TV ads they produced.http://www.youtube.com/user/Sh...VGrz0h ... ...idVxgMy Ranger 2.3L won't run properly on anything except Amoco/BP Ultimate. Runs so-so on other premiums and is virtually not drivable on any midgrade or regular grade gas.Charles

Our brilliant members of Congress think force feeding us ethanol is good for US oil independence and also helps support the farmers who seem to have always been a favored species. You know how that goes - you see it in Canada in the price you pay for dairy products.

Ah yes... milk prices, much like gas prices, are pretty much the same everywhere.

All other Citgos (and all other stations for that matter) in the area have 87 as the lowest octane.

They are really CITGO stations. Because of the deserved stigma attached to the Chavez-controlled gas stations, many Americans are not buying gas at CITGO, and the stations are losing money . . . big-time.So, with the smoke and mirrors of a name-change, many CITGO stations are quietly changing from CITGO signs and emblems to Valero. The excuse is that Valero, a San Antonio-based oil refiner, is merely “branding” CITGO stations. Whatever. New Venezuela-affiliated stations are opening up at Valero, as well. Yes, Valero and CITGO are separate companies, but they benefit the same parties when the name Valero is on a gas station: Venezuela and Chavez. http://www.debbieschlussel.com...avez/And if you have any further doubt, read this story headline....Quote »Long Live Hugo Chavez! by Cindy Sheehanhttp://cindysheehanssoapbox.bl....html

Quiktrip is king in Tulsa, OK. There's literally one on every corner. The first Quiktrip was founded in Tulsa and they're headquarters are located here. They were one of the first two gas stations to earn a top tier gasoline rating in the country, along with Chevron. If you have a Quiktrip nearby, that is always my first choice. They're mostly in the south and midwest though. They keep my car running smooth and their fountain drinks are bar none. They made a deal with 7-11 here in Oklahoma to not put any Quiktrips in OKC and 7-11 can't put any stations in Tulsa. Sucks when I go to OKC and all their is is 7-11's.

read your manual. never heard of people putting premium in a 1ZZ though, take advantage of the fact that it doesn't require the most expensive grade

I like to fill my vibe with the 87 lawn mower gas. It doesnt have a high compression engine like a turbo or a tuned a 2ZZ-GE found in original vibe GT's. Also, I'd worry that higher octane gas would cause the engine to run hotter than its supposed to and over time be problematic. I remember hearing the car talk guys saying somthing like that at some point. Hey star_deceiver, i think the 91/92 octane gas where I live still has 10% ethonal in it. I go by the sticker on the pump that says "contains ethonal". Maybe its fun to put high octane in once evey year or 6 months to enjoy the perceived increase in horsepower and to "clean" the engine out. No idea if that really works though. I'm sticking with 87 :D

I too have been using 87 (along with the previous owner). My thought process was in line with Vibedrivermatt's in that the vehicle doesnt have a high compression engine so my '09 GT doesn't need a higher grade fuel. Although, if my thinking is flawed, please inform me

Need to read your owners manual, your GT may require a higher octane. The manual will tell you. Some cars do not run well on too high an octane also. I have a 2.0 Plymouth Breeze that runs like crud on BP Ultimate and then I looked in the manual and it said to never use anything higher than 87, as it would not run well. I put the Ultimate in by mistake. I use it in my Ranger, and forgot the Breeze did not need it.Charles

I have and 03 GT and the 91 is all i use. If i go lower the power drops off. I will mix the 2 higher usually 50/50 and still get good power but if I only use the 89 power is bad and engine won't run as smooth. I stay away from shell, used it twice and both times got bad gas. Had to put heet in the tank tell It got to half then put 91 from another brand to get a mixture then had to us injector cleaner and Cheveron 91 for about 3 tanks tell it started running normal.
