Valvoline Oil Guarantee?

Just heard about a deal that if you change your oil every 3,000 miles with Valvoline oil they will guarantee it for 300,000 miles. Granted that you change it with full synthetic, for the 300,000 mile warranty. I just want to know how many people have heard about this and if it sounds like a good deal. http://www.valvoline.com/

IMO if you are using a full synthetic, you do not need to change the oil every 3,000 miles. I run a full synthetic and change about every 10,000.

But if you go over 3.,000 miles, say 3,100 miles, my guess is that you are toast when it comes to their warranty.Reminds me a little of those 0% interest deals at electronics stores. You make the payments on time for 23 months - one day late on the 24th and they hit you with all of the past interest.Or the question in a Catholic religion class (in the old days) about the guy who was perfect all his life but then one Friday he just had to have a hot dog and right after got hit by a truck and died. Is he going to go to Hell?

Not to mention the only official way to track all of this would be to go and get the oil change instead of DIY. Therefore, for a full synthetic change, you are looking at probably $80 easy.Now if you break that down into the 300,000 miles they warranty it for, that's $8000. Roughly $2666.67 for the first 100K and $5333.33 for 200K.IMO, unless you break down in the say the first 150K miles, it's a waste of money. I'd just rather use synthetic and change it my ownself. Yes, that warranty would be nice to an extent, but considering the first 100K is covered under the drivetrain warranty (albeit up to 5 yrs) but for that much to pay out and then only really be worried about it for only 50K more miles, just doesn't sound worth it to me.

I think the 150,000 mile deal will probably work for me - let's see, 150,000 miles divided by 5,000 miles per year = 30 years. I am 66 so that would be until I am 96. As I get older my miles per year will no doubt further go down so maybe I won't hit 150,000 miles until I am 100. Wait - maybe it's transferable to my heirs.

It says that you have a 1,000 mile grace period between changes so 3,000 to 4,000 each oil change and you can do it yourself you just have to save all of your receipts and have your car registered at valvoline.com before you hit 75,000 miles.

There are so many other things that will wear out in 300,000 miles besides the engine that they won't pay for. Don't think it's worth it, they just want you to buy their oil.
