I have a 05 Matrix, XR AWD (1ZZ) at this time the CAI is ordered and the pulleys you suggested. Before I order the headers what mods are needed for the AWD? Will my old exhaust bolt back up or do I need to have the CAT back system installed at the same time? Thanks for your post!Rob Hi Rob, Thanks! If you refer back to MO there is a thread with pics of the OBX header install on and AWD: http://matrixowners.com/index.php?showtopic=87386. Good Luck and let me know how it goes. I am curious about 2 things so I can add then to the info on the 1st page:1) How much louder is the car inside the cabin with this header?2) Did you notice much HP gains? Thanks,BrianPS - Welcome to GenVibe, BTW.

My exhaust will not be on this poor man's thread, I'm pretty sure it's gonna run me 700 or more since I wanna do the dual, and I'm not backin down on that one. Guess that leaves the intake, is that silly to do on it's own? or go for it?

i just finished the CAI, alternator, and crank pully's.. i have the throttle spacer sitting on the shelf but havent had the time to do the install yet. so far the one that i think added the most was the intake. on low end and take offs it does nothing but on the high rpm side you can feel the difference.

Hey all - I'm coming over from NGC - this thread is AMAZING. Thank you, for starters - you're truly a god.I was wondering if you could update us on where we could get the pulleys?I found the UR alt pulley for $78 at NOPI, making it a no brainer upgrade (which I'll be doing soon). The link is here:http://www.nopi.com/dsp_part_d...d=199That said, can you give us an update where we might find the Alutec crank pulley? Motorex appears to be long gone, and with NGC down, I don't know how to contact Evan (I don't even know what his SN was there). Thanks!

I have a 2004 base.

From the list I have all of stage 1 except the cat back (still debating the pros and cons), and all of stage 3.

Stage 2 may come at a later date, but, the gains on N/A don't outweigh the cost IMO.

My thoughts are do stage 1 and 3, then later, go stage 2 and boost.

The links are a bit dated, but, most, if not all, of the items are still available elsewhere online.

Anyone have the install instruction sheet for the Cosmo Racing CAI? I e-mailed them direct and apparently they only have paper copies in this digital age

Anyone install the CAI on their base Vibe? Just curious how much more involved it is to install. The SRI install looks pretty straight forward but for 2hp more gain, it might be worth the extra effort on the CAI install. Just can't see from the pic on their site where/how the filter terminates. I am thinking it goes thru the fender? Anyone have any pics of their install to show this?

Are there any negatives to going with the CAI over the SRI? Seems like pulling cooler air in from outside the engine compartment would be the way to go IMO.

Thanks - Mike

I was just looking at someone's pics of doing an Injen CAI install on their Matrix. I think I will stick with the SRI thinking at this time since the install is only 20-30 minutes from the sounds of it. Also, it seems like it would be "cleaner" for the filter up in the engine compartment rather than closer to the ground in the fender well.

Thanks for the info!

Mike

Should the spacer and the SRI be installed at the same time or is there any advantage to doing the 1st mod, then the 2nd? Wasn't sure if some error codes would be thrown since "so much" was changing at once.

After reading numerous other posts, I'm thinking that now would be a good time to replace the intake manifold gasket while everything is apart. Someone said the '03 1ZZ are prone to gasket failures.

So if the TB is bored out to match the spacer, what size is the port on the intake manifold? Wouldn't boring the TB be somewhat a waste of $ since there is still the restriction once the air gets to the intake manifold opening since it is smaller (assumed) than the bored TB and spacer? Just sayin....

Is the header and catback a "simple" bolt-on install or will it require a trip to the local muffler shop? My exhaust is starting to get a bit louder I have noticed so it might be time to start looking into this.

I'm not sure about the header but the catback will require welding and pipe bending unless you buy a complete catback system. My custom 2.25" Catback installed was about $250.

Did you go with a Magnaflow muffler or something similar and is your piping stainless? I see the Magnaflow Catback system is $526?

So I am guessing 1 would:

1. Unbolt the exhaust from the original crappy OEM exhaust manifold and bolt the header in place (ok maybe not that simple with orig 122K mile rusty bolts).
2. Follow the Magnaflow instructions (assuming a Magnaflow system is going on) and cut/remove the stock exhaust from where the weld is at the entrance of the front resonator assy on back. Slide the Magnaflow system in place (using the u-bolt temporarily to get to the muffler shop). Then take the car to a muffler shop and have them weld it in place.

http://www.magnaflow.com/07techtips/pdfs/15759.pdf

Is there any advantage to also going with the Magnaflow SS catalytic converter while everything is torn apart?

My oh my, is the DC header gorgeous. The stock one....well, at least it still LOOKS like an exhaust manifold.

So header and Magnaflow exhaust. Is there any benefit to replacing the OEM catalytic converter with 1 of Magnaflow's cats since everything is torn apart? Are the Magnaflow cats "more free flowing" or are they simply an OEM spec replacement?
