New Member with a 03 Vibe Toad new to me.

Post by svt4cam »

Greetings all! Just bought a 2003 Vibe manual trans with 131,000 miles to use as a Toad behind our RV. Bought it yesterday and already have questions. lol. While generally in excellent shape there was a peculiar rhythmic clicking noise behind the center dash cluster. I thought it was the cd player as you can't put cd's into it. I opened that up and fiddled with it to no avail. Still no cd's, not that it really matters. But it turns out the noise is coming from a cable that goes to the recirculate button for the AC. As long as the button is on, no noise, if I turn it off noise comes back?? Any ideas?

Thanks Caretaker, doesn't look to bad to do. Since it's quiet with recirculate on It's no big hurry but, it's nice to know what it is. I've been reading about 5 speed manual failures and though I might preemptively change gear lube. Any idea what lube is recommended?

I'd throw Pennzoil Syncromesh in it. Good bang for the buck. Feels great, isn't too heavy for colder climates, and is safe for the gears in our transmission.

Welcome to GenVibe :D Hopefully your tranny is currently still in good shape and that it will go for several years until it needs repaired/replaced. I'd assume you retired (I'm almost there myself) and this may get limited use as compared to a young family with kids & such. Thanks for joining up here and visit us often
