P0171 Changing Intake Manifold Gasket

Post by tercelerator »

I am about to change my intake manifold gasket on my 2006 2WD automatic Vibe and was wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom or pitfalls to avoid.
My buddy also suggested giving it some sea foam engine treatment while we're in there, any thoughts?
Thanks.

Get a moving blanket. You'll want it to cover the radiator after you pull the radiator fan for extra room. Keep you from being sliced up, and reduce the risk of damaging the fins. A sheet of cardboard if you don't have a blanket.

Might look into replacing the valve cover gasket as well (two gaskets, four o-rings, and some black gasket compound, IIRC)

While you have the intake off, change the PCV valve too. Also be sure to mark all your vacuum hoses so that you can get them hooked back up to the proper locations. You may want to take pictures as you go so just in case your not sure about something when you are putting it back together, you have a picture to refer to.

Jolt and bookworm with solid advice. I second doing valve cover gasket while you're at it. Not much more work, and adds more peace of mind.

Hey, do one of you guys know the torque specs for the intake manifold or where the best place to find them?
