GenVibe's 16th birthday April 1, 2018

Post by joatmon »

Genvibe official came on line 16 years ago today, April 1, 2002, so today it turns 16.

The first topic from that day is viewtopic.php?t=2

Today is also Easter, and since easter candy is popular, it makes it a sweet 16 for this place.

Although its April1, this is no fool joke

I have been here since 2/9/2003; I was a mere 60 years old at that time.
This site has saved me both a lot of time and money.
My 2009 only has 46,800 miles and I just changed coolant and transmission fluid. [Now a backup to our 2017 Equinox.]
Only issues (aside from the dealer fail on the last oil change) are the infamous rattle (at about year 4) in the steering column and the equally infamous broken radio knob. Dealers says repair would approach the cost of a new radio, as if I wanted another one with that lurking defect.

It is a great tribute to the Audi online enthusiast community who provided (still provides?) hosting for the much smaller GenVibe community initially.

The fact that the GenVibe community survives even though the namesake vehicle has been out of production for 8 years speaks volumes about the great GenVibe sysadmin(s), moderators, and the multitude of curious, friendly, and knowledgable Vibe enthusiasts who've passed through these internet portals over the years. I never made the transition to the Facebook GenVibe community, but GenVibe.com is still a wonderful place for conversation, information, and endless entertainment. Thanks everyone!

Sweet 16 - that makes GenVibe old enough for a learner's permit?

My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.

It is the people here that make all the difference.

Totally agree with you on this one. I too am NOT part of the Facebook site and never will be. Too much drama over there and it's more for the younger crowd anyways. As I approach retirement in the next couple years I plan on getting heavily involved with restoration and repairing of automobiles, especially Vibes ;) . With a shop fully stocked with everything imaginable to work on cars (lifts, paint booth, welders, milling & lathes, tools, tools , and more tools) I plan on returning to this passion for the love of it (won't need the $$$) and will rely on GenVibe for advise as well as post new things that I learn & discover. Here's to 16 more years :D
