New Member and Qs about 2009 Vibe

Post by YoungVolks »

Hi everyone,

Just bought a 2009 1.8l Base Vibe with a 5 speed in it! Absolutely love it, Ive always wanted one and I’m glad I have one now. My old Honda refused to die!

I have a couple questions after scouring the forums to no avail.

1: can one use 1st gen vibe alloy wheels on a second gen vibe? I know they use the same 5x100 bolt pattern and the 1.8l 09/10 models are 205/55R16. I have the steelies on the car now and I want to use those for winter tires here in Michigan and use the alloys, which look a lot better, in the summer. I found some decent ones in CLASS for cheap, but I’d have to get them sandblasted and repainted (about $250 at a place I know for blasting and painting). Any advice on this subject would be most welcome.

2: does anyone know where to locate a fold flat front passenger seat? I want to car camp with the vibe and see the country, but I’m 6’3” and won’t fit unless the passenger seat folds flat. Can’t find any on eBay, and even then, they’re expensive for the ones that don’t fold flat.

3: I just bought the black OEM rear cargo shade, and I’ve wanted to get one of those spare tire covers that has the compartment for groceries in it. There’s one on eBay for $138 and the auction ends soon, was thinking of snatching it up, but wanted to make sure it would open fully and be useable without me having to take the cargo shade off every time I go to use it. Anyone have any experience with this?

Think that’s all for now, many thanks!! Glad to be part of the forum!

Pics to come soon!!

I can only answer that yes, you should should be able to use 1st Gen alloys on a 2nd Gen with a 1.8. I don't believe there are any clearance concerns with brakes. You are correct, 09-10 1.8s came with 5x100 bolt pattern.

The baseline models came with the same steelies and wheel covers from 03-10, so I would think all the 5x100 wheel options should all interchange in those years.

As for your other questions, I'm a clueless 1st Gen owner.

2. I would think your best bet would be a junkyard. It was only on upmarket vibes, I don't think any 1.8's have it in it (I know mine didn't).

Welcome to GenVibe. So you're from Michigan??? Which part ? (update profile for us) I'll have to look to see if our Vibe's have these divider things. I'm pretty sure they do and have never used them and never will. Seeing how ours are the GT models it could be that it was a standard "upfit" option on the higher trim Vibes! I'll report back soon ..................

Thanks for the replies everyone! Ended up getting the wheels! They’re a bit rough but I talked to a sandblasting and painting place and they gave a pretty reasonable price for redoing them, so I’m gonna jump on it.

Also, profile updated! Tpollauf, I’m in southeast Michigan, near Ann Arbor. That would be pretty cool of you to check and see if yours have the dividers, maybe it was standard equipment on higher trims, or the AWD models!

Also ... YES our Vibe GT's have these dividers. Never knew it was even there :o

This is what mine looks like, (with genuine GM soft cover!) Unfortunate they all didn’t come with the divider option in the trunk floor, or the fold flat front seat!

If anyone knows where I can acquire the other all-weather floor mats with the Vibe logo on them, like what I have in the drivers footwell, I’d love to know!

Welcome to GenVibe! As far as the fold-flat passenger seat and cargo management system, these were not even available options for the 09-10 1.8L Base. They were however standard on the 09-10 GT and available options on the 09-10 AWD and 2.4L Base. Car-part.com may be of some assistance in helping you find these parts in a local junkyard.

As for the all weather floor mats, good luck finding them. They've been discontinued since the whole "Toyota unintended acceleration" debacle in 2010. We have them in both our Vibes (got them right after we bought our Vibes new in 2009), so I will check for part numbers on the other three mats tomorrow and see if by chance you could still get them that way. In case you're not aware and are interested, you can still get the matching all weather cargo mat (#19170827) ;).

Conicelli has the floor mats both with the Matrix and Corolla logos. The matrix ones are only $35

Caretaker, thanks for the link, I’ll look into them!

Vibeenvy, thank you as well! I’m definitely leaning towards the rear cargo mat, since it is exactly what I want. Two questions: do you know where to pick up the the rubber mats that attach to the rear of the seat backs for when the seats are folded down? (I saw another one of your posts where this was the case, so that’s how I know :P ). Also, do you have the cargo area organizer that is part of the trunk floor? I reference it in an earlier post in this thread. If you do, do you ever use it, and how much of a hassle is it to use with the all weather mat back there? I think the organizer is wildly useful but don’t have one yet.

The links and help are greatly appreciated, thanks again!!

What I did with both our Vibes was just ordered a second cargo mat for each to cover the backs of the rear seats when they're folded down. As you can see in the picture below, the cargo mat does a great job of covering the backs of the rear seats. When the rear seats are up, the second cargo mat is simply stacked on top of the original one in the cargo area.

Yes, both our Vibes came with the cargo management systems since it was standard on all 09-10 GTs. We've used them a few times over the years. It's not a big deal with the cargo mats back there. I just kind of flip the cargo mats back toward the rear seats before opening up the cargo management system.

Hey, that’s really clever! Just ordered the mat from eBay, thank you for the link and the timely response, Vibenvy!

You're very welcome ;)!

If you have a Facebook account and haven't already, be sure to join the GenVibe group on there. It's quite a bit more active than the forum has been the last few years.
