110v outlet dead....need suggestions

Post by BowlingVibe »

My 110v outlet isn't giving any power but the light is on, I can hear what I think is a relay click in the dash whenever I press the switch but no power at the receptacle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On 2009-10 Vibes, the inverter is located under the drivers seat bolted to the on star box.

03-08 Vibes also have the inverter under the drivers seat.

How have you tested the outlet, plugging in device or Volt Meter? Is the socket still tight wen items are plugged in?

on your 2005 Vibe, pressing the switch should activate the inverter relay, which provides power from the INV fuse to the under seat 115V inverter. The electricity to energize the inverter relay as well as the light on the inverter switch both come from the gauge fuse. Since the switch lights up and you hear a relay click, the gague fuse is probably ok, (and if it wasn't, you'd be worried about a lot of more important other things that would stop working). It is possible that the 15A INV fuse is blown. It is in the hard to access under dash fuse block. I'd check that fuse first.

Not sure what would cause the INV fuse to blow. I have overloaded the inverter in my 03, and the inverter has overcurrent protection, if you plug in too big of a load, it just shuts down, recovers automatically when the overload is removed. At least that's the normal way it behaves.

So check that fuse, let us know what you find

I have the same problem when the 115v sw is pressed it blows the fuse. Could it be the inverter and how to check.

Don't know about the 09-10's, or what year your Vibe is, but if its a 03-08, one thing to try is to disconnect the electrical connector from the inverter under the driver seat, and then see if the fuse still blows when you press the switch. If the fuse still blows, then it is likely the wiring or relay supplying power to the inverter, if it doesn't, then its likely the inverter.

The inverter has overload protection built in, I know when I have tried to power something that needs more power than the inverter can supply, it just shuts down until the overload is removed, then it recovers automatically, doesn't blow a fuse, so if you have a wiring short on the 115V AC side, it won't blow the fuse.

If you think that inverter is bad, then maybe you could reach out to bratboy, in https://forums.genvibe.com/phpBB3/viewt ... 18&t=47702 he said he has about 5 of them
