Trying to find a set of 4 rims for my 2006 vibe awd.. decent priced ??my research says 16" 6.5 width 5x100 bolt pattern 39mm offset with a 54.1 center bore....Im in upstate new york and there doesnt seem to be alot of vibes in the local junk yards?? this is a good thing...but not so much when trying to find a set of cheap wheels for my winter snow tires?? Question is what other makes of vehicles other than the matrix might run this same rim??? tried to find a website to see what might be interchangable... seems as though another gm might fit the vibe?? i appreciate the help in advance ...wanna have a set of winters and allseasons.. i need the snows here with the snow we get... :(

I converted a 2005 and 2007 base Vibe over to 15" steel rims with 195's from Tire rack. Made a huge difference for winter driving even though they are not snow tires. Also the ride is better, tires are cheaper, they wear better, and help in heavy rain. The rims were about $53 plus shipping. The 16" steel wheels are about the same price. I also downsized the 2010 2.4l Vibe 17" rims to 16" with 205's. I tried to get them local but I couldn't find a tire store that would do anything other than standard. Tire rack is great help to identify what works with your model.

Steel wheels are cheap as all get-out from salvage yards. They usually have a mountain of them, generally priced $10-25 each.

This site lets you compare OEM size to other sizes... http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire-Size-Calculator

Shop Craigslist. There are always used sets of snow tires already on rims. People sell the car, then discover the snow tires buried in the back of the garage. I just bought a good set of 205/55R-16 studded snow tires mounted on New Beetle alloys for $150!

Note that some of those cars have a different center bore. PT Cruisers, specifically, have a bigger center bore, so you'll want to get some centric rings (aluminum ones are the best and last longer).

Almost forgot. The Toyota wheels use a special lug nut with a round "snout" that locates the wheel instead of the more common tapered seat. I had to use Honda lug nuts to mount the New Beetle alloys. Expect this with non-Toyota wheels.

I found that to be a problem on a Dodge van I had. It needed that style but some idiot had these on it:

They got replaced with the proper ones, of course.

Actually, more like this.

Nut on the left is the Honda style, the one on the right is OEM Toyota

The Toyota nut does not seat on the taper, it locates on the round. The hole in the New Beetle wheels was too small for this diameter.

Huh, very weird. I might have to grab some of those next time I am in a salvage yard. Ones I went to in another state, they didn't even charge me for lug nuts when I needed 36 of them (4x 8 lug wheels). They gave me a few extras as spares, too. They are so worth so little to them and they don't want to warranty them. Although, I did buy $100+ in steel rims from them and was having fitment problems from the wrong lug nuts that the van had when I got it, so maybe that's why they didn't charge me.

The "Honda" one you show is a standard one like I showed, just with a thin metal cap on it to make it look fancy; if it's like the truck ones I had anyway.

On second though, no point getting a few from a junk yard unless they are cheap or free. There is a similar aftermarket replacement ones for $2... http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... &ppt=C0337

In the case if needing 36 for that Dodge, 36x $2.20 each = nearly $80, so the junk yard was the better option.

Haha... math has never been my strong point and I didn't even think about it. 36 is how many I got total I guess. Like I said, they gave me extras.

Lug nuts are always an issue with wheels on our cars. The steel wheels used the tapered lug nuts, and the Vibe ones had threads on the outside of the lugs to attach the plastic wheel covers to the car. The OEM alloy wheels used the OEM Toyota mag wheel style lug nuts as noted above since they mount the wheel to the hub using the flat surface where the washer is. Even though the end of the mag nuts has a slight taper on them, they are not recommended for securing wheels that use the tapered lug nuts. The OEM ones have the taper so you can temporarily mount up the spare tire and use the same lug nuts. Always use the type of lug nuts the wheels require when mounting them.

I need to get some new ones for my GT and plan to get the solid lug nuts on ebay, not the two part ones that it came with. The metal caps have corroded underneath the surface and don't fit in the lug wrench anymore or have come off on a couple of mine. These are the ones:

The OEM alloy lug nuts are mag style, the tapered kind usually used are acorn style, and acorn styles with a curved tapered surface are ball seats. that should clear it all up.
