Hi folks,

Proud new owner here of a silver 2006 Vibe,1.8L Base Version, I guess. Man. trans. pwr everything else, with sunroof! I have wanted a Vibe for a few years now so finally got one. It is a pure joy to drive! Has been about 30 yrs. since I drove a stick so I am a bit rusty but quickly getting the hang of it again. It is missing the lower right triangular grill piece so I have to see where i can get one of those. Plus a mat for the trunk floor.

BTW, I am located in Oshawa Ontario, which means I'll have to get a set of steel rims and snow tires in about 5 months from now!

Welcome and congratulations, Bigred1951. I guess we are of similar vintage and my hair matches your car quite well. I made the same move recently. These are enjoyable cars. Why would you wait 5 months to get your set of winter tires and why would you want them on steel rims? I bought a set of winter tires on aluminum rims just last week. I bet if you frequent craigslist or kijiji you will get a great deal on winter tires while the weather is hot.

Thanks, Vibrologist. I read that steel rims are preferable over alloy as the extra weight gives an extra "bite" to your snow tires as well as the car, which helps traction etc. I know they aren't as visually appealing like alloys but for me handling and safety are my primary concerns in winter time! Maybe I'll paint the steel silver just for the heck of it!
Here's to it and from it, and to it again!. If you ever get to it to do it and don't do it you'll never get to it to do it again!

O.k., when it comes to driving in snow I listen to the guy who lives in the tundra for most of the year.

Chiadog did exactly what you are talking about: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43368&p=496523&hil ... og#p496412" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The rims of Pontiac Sunfire/ Cavalier fit as well. When you switch to steel rims or after market rims you need conical lug nuts because Vibe aluminum rims use flat lug nuts.

Thanks for the info about the Sunfire/Cavalier rims and lug nuts.

@ ramenboy...thanks for the welcome!
I posted a few more pics. I noticed the original one was cut off at the bottom.

After "previewing the new attachments it looks like the software on this site cuts or crops the pics as my versions are full pics. Oh well!

Welcome! Your new car does look good. I do think the early Vibes look good in silver, or salsa! Congrats on it.

Thanks, trb....I didn't realize that "salsa" was a colour in the Vibe world. Cool! I also saw a green one today, I think it's called "Envy", also very cool!

Welcome to GenVibe :D Yes, definitely go with steelies when getting your winter rubber for the Vibe. So many of us here have done just that and have no regrets. Alloy rims are more susceptible to minor air leakage over the years as compared to steelies. Also, hit a big pothole with an allow and the potential for cracking the rim is there. With steel you'd just bend the rim. The Vibe appears to be in pretty good condition. Also, I can attest to your color matching my hair color also :lol: Again .... WELCOME and visit often ;)

Welcome to GenVibe! Thanks for posting a picture of your "new" Vibe right away ;)! I see your Vibe is the best color :cool:! I highly recommend a set of steel wheels for the winter months. We live near Chicago, IL and have steel wheels and tires that we install on our Vibes for the winter months. If you get some wheel covers for them, they don't look too bad. Be sure and keep us updated on any changes / modifications you make to the Vibe ;)!

Yes, they were very creative on the color names. When I was looking for our second one, I wanted a Salsa 05-08 or Red Hot Metallic 09-10 GT. I would have considered a silver one too, but my wife didn't really want to have two cars the same, let along the same color as my son's Vibe!
