Hi Folks,
What are you all using in your vehicles? My owners manual says SAE 5W-30 but the oil filler cap says SAE 5W-20. Which is correct? I've been using the 5W-20 Napa Synthetic but want to know if I should trust the manual or the filler cap? Have any of you faced this same situation? Was the manual printed in error or the wrong cap installed? I appreciate any feedback.
Toyota engine and Toyota Matrix manual specifies 5w20. GM for whatever reason chose to specify 5w30. Bottom line is if Toyota is specifying 5w20 I wouldn't have any problems in putting in 5w20, but put in 5w30 if it makes you feel comfortable.
5W-30 won't hurt it, but you should be using 5W-20 or 0W-20.
The owner's manual is wrong. The GM Service Manual specifically states:
"For temperatures above -20F (-29C), use 5W-20. 5W-20 is best for the vehicle."
Later it states that 0W-20 should be used when temperatures may go below the above.
I believe the owner's manual also specifies the wrong transmission fluid. I think it says DEXRON. These trannies take WS though, which is also specified in the GM shop manual.
Manual was a misprint, use either 5w20 or better yet use 0w20 if you can find it.
