Anybody have Blind Spot Mirrors?

Hey Folks,

anybody have blind spot mirrors on their Vibe? (or other car) If so where are you putting them. I always see them on the outside bottom of the mirror but I read that you get better visibility by putting the blind spot mirror on the inside bottom of the mirror. So which is better?

We have 2" round ones on both our Vibes. They're on the lower outer corners. I don't know if they would work even better somewhere else, but they work fine where they're at.

I put mine on the inside bottom corner. However, I have noticed some of the newer vehicles (I noticed it on a Ford Escape that I rented) actually come with the blind spot mirror in the top outside corner. I assume they probably studied the best positioning.??

I think either place provides a better visual of the blind spot.

I put mine on the upper far corner of my mirror, and they're aimed so I can see my rear tire. They've gotten me out of trouble a few times, actually. :?

I put the round convex ones on the inside lower corners. It was a tough decision! Still not sure. Unfortunately I put the passenger one on clocked to about 1-1:30 from straight up and down. Must of had my head tilted as I pressed it on. If you look at em, there is a cutout on the back on one side (at least for the Bell model) where it should be straight up and down. Being slightly off makes curbs and lines curve more when you are looking at it. At some point I might have to wd-40 it off and get some more two sided tape and put it on straight.
Funny thing is, I first planned on putting it on pretty much like it ended up because it seemed to give a better view of the rear passenger tire, which I wanted, but decided against it because of the distortion. It might be one of those mistakes that works out in the end. I know not of what I want!
Another thing, as you press down on the glass of the side mirror, support the other side so you do not put too much stress on the adjusting mechanism it is mounted to.
Let us know where you decide to mount them.

I've read that the outside top is the best place to put these mirrors. I had one on the inside bottom, then the outside bottom of my Grand Am. Inside defiantly wasn't right, and the outside bottom mirror obscured the ground after adjusting it to back in to a parking spot.

I put it on the bottom-outside of my mirror. I never thought of putting it elsewhere until I've seen and read that other people put it elsewhere. I have one of those adjustable bulb things so I can move it to a different angle when necessary.

Mounting on the inside lower corner might be working out okay for me possibly because I am using the alternative method of adjusting the side mirrors, as Ponta2147 has also suggested in another thread that discussed blind spots.
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=38140" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
the link to the adjustment instructions:
http://www.caranddriver.com/features/ho ... lind-spots" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In combination with this method, it kind of reverses the way you might use the blind spot mirrors to where you are using them more for looking closer to the side, ground, and curb of car, more for parking and backing up near cars, walls, curbs, islands, medians, etc.

I first put mine on the lower inside corner, but then moved it to the top outside. Fact is, I find it more distracting than anything and will take it off.

I put my convex mirrors on the outer lower corner of my rear view mirrors. It's gotten me out of trouble a few times, and I also used it for parallel parking.

I always put them on my vehicles and can't stand driving without them. I think all new vehicles should come with them. Not stick on ones, but nicely mounted ones. I've always put them on the lower bottom corners. Not sure how well they work in other locations, but they work just fine for me there.

I have really appreciated the discussion in this thread. I am settling in to my Vibe having picked it up on Tuesday, still adjusting seat, headrest and mirrors. I took the advice from Car and Driver and moved my outside mirrors so that I do not see my car in them in my normal eyes-front position. Yet it takes just a bit of a tilt of the head to see the door handles at my sides, orienting me to where the things in my mirrors are in relation to my own position. I may find I need to move the mirrors even further out, but today there was not enough traffic in my travels to really test the mirror placement.

It was a hard decision for me. I remember looking at the instructions, and the diagram showed one of the primary positions on the lower inside. I was assuming they were showing an illustration of the driver's side mirror. If they were showing the passenger's side mirror, then it would be on the lower outside. Then I had a thought. A nefarious thought that would rock the foundations of the earth,...or at least here in America and Continental Europe. What if they were really showing an illustration of the driver's side, but a right handed drive British/Asian side mirror? OOOhhhhh, spooky! :o My reality will never be the same. :cry:
Not sure where they put the steering wheel in China, but everything, including those side mirrors and instructions, are made there.
With using the alternative side mirror adjustment method, where would be the best place to place those mirrors?

Jazzvibe, I hear ya, I would drive around looking for the right traffic conditions, and would be looking at traffic on side, behind, and oncoming as they pass with both side mirror and convex mirrors trying to figure it out. Also would pick out landmarks like signs and posts as I pass to see which would reflect them first. Good thing I did not rear-end somebody while looking at my mirrors. Also spent some time in parking lots looking at lines and curbs. Did some backing up and parallel parking. Insanity. Still not sure of the placement.

This is how I use my outside mirrors. I have them cranked out to where my inside rear view mirror and my outside mirrors just overlap enough so a car that is overtaking me shows up in the side mirror just before it moves out of range of the inside rear view mirror. And like jazzvibe, if I move my head to the side I can still see the side of the car (just i case I'm worried about whether or not the back door handle is still there ;) )

I have a sport full length rear view mirror from my civic si that covers all angles of view including blind spots. It's about 12" long but I haven't bothered putting it in the vibe yet. I have to have a reason to put something like that in it! I ain't racing my vibe anytime soon.
