what did you pay for your vibe?

Post by silverbullet »

I came across some old paperwork and couldn't believe seeing what i paid for mine. at the time of purchase: its a silver 2003 1zz auto with moonroof. aftermarket head unit amplifier speakers. magnaflow cat back, strut tower brace, tinted windows, and two sets of wheels/tires, alloys for winter and my black ones for summer. had around 138,000 at the time. mantained very wel, switched to synthetic after first 10,000 miles and trans had been flushed once or twice. spark plugs had been changed, o yea and the short ram intake as well. the magic number................I paid 3,600 so im thinking i practically stole this thing. ha ha

Purchased in July of 2009 with around 26,000 miles. Bought it from my grandfathers friend who is a used car dealer. Got it for $15,000. Quite a deal for a 2009 GT at that time.

i bought my '10 new from dealer in july/august '09.1.8l, auto, a/c, preferred package.after cash for clunkers trade (10 year old truck probably worth $1,500), gm card earnings, "pontiac is going out of business" incentives, and "the economy is in the crapper and no one can get financed but i'm a cash buyer negotiation", i paid less than $8,800 out the door. KBB value the day i drove it off the lot was $17,000.

I didn't pay anything, I was living 220km (That's.. 137,5 miles?) away for school and my old '97 Saturn was starting to show signs of age, so my mom drove it for a while and I took the Vibe to school. That summer, when Dad bought his truck, Mom started driving the van again, I had the Vibe, and we sold the Saturn. Not long after that, the youngster we sold it to starved the poor thing of oil and it died of catastrophic engine failure. So I guess, to summarize, I paid the soul of an old, beat-up Saturn for my Vibe.

I got kind of screwed over because I still owed money on my used 2002 Pontiac Sunfire SE Sedan that I traded in for the Vibe and of course the dealer gave me jack s**t for it even though it was in great shape and only had 65,xxx miles on it. Also, the dealer wasn't willing to negotiate on the price because they did a dealer trade to get my Vibe. The only saving grace for me is that I managed to get 1.9% financing. I believe in the end with everything included, my brand new, fully loaded 2009 Vibe GT ended up being $27,xxx.xx over 6 years. I am more than halfway through the loan and it's currently $13,xxx.xx. The $27,xxx.xx doesn't bother me too much because I know I will have the Vibe for a long time. The way I look at it is this: If I have the Vibe for at least twice as long as it takes to pay it off, so 12 years, I'll be satisfied. At this point, when it's paid off in early 2015, it should only have around 60,000 miles so I don't see 12 years being an issue at all.

Vibe #1 2003 GT bought new June 2003. sticker 21,000. Negotiated $2,500 off from dealer. Had $3,500 in GM card rebate points and GM was offering a $2,000 factory rebate. Net price before tax $13,000.

Vibe #2, 2007 base w/auto. Bought new in Jan 2008. Negotiated $1,195 off from dealer, $3,000 GM card, $1,750 GM factory rebate and $1,000 GM loyalty rebate (still own Vibe #1). Sticker $18,195. Net price before tax $11,250.

Still have them both. Oldest son has the 2003 for 5 years. Younger son has the 2007.

$2,350 out the door.

Never thought I'd own a Vibe, especially after building them for eight years. Not that anything is wrong with them, but I guess its kind of that, you know, see it, smell it, touch it everyday kind of thing when you've just had enough of them and don't want to see them anymore. Besides, I owned two cars that I liked and really didn't have a need for a third nor want to part with one of the others.

But then things being what they were, the plant shut down, my other two cars are gas hogs, I knew I would be unemployed and on a fixed budget long term, and Pontiac, the Vibe, and NUMMI all went away at the same time. I knew how good the Vibes are on gas and figured if I could pick one up inexpensively enough, it would just about pay for itself in gas savings over a couple of years.

I checked CraigsList for a while, and finally saw one being auctioned off with a decent starting bid. It had 165k at the time, but turns out it had one original owner and was owned by a teacher who always had it serviced at the dealer and had all service records and almost all miles were freeway. Mechanically, he kept it in great condition. Physically, it looked like it hadn't been waxed once in the time he had it, but the body was clean. He had donated it to charity and they have them auctioned off.

Out of about 50 people at the auction place, I was the only one interested in the Vibe. Picked it up for $2,000 plus their 10% auction fee, smog fee, tax, license, and registration. Glad I did. Its got 190k on it now and the only problem I've had with it is the ac recently went out - think its a blocked link, but haven't investigated yet. Out of the three, its my favorite vehicle now, but I think part of that is how far I get on a tank of gas.

Purchasing late in the model year works great to help drive a bargain. Maybe doesn't work as well if someone plans to flip cars every 3 years, since they will lose another year of depreciation on resale, but my MO is to keep 'em a long time.

Yeah the GM card was a great deal, I've seen your posts about your purchase, definitely got the value out of it. In the early days they did not limit the points based on the car price. I built up the max $3500 for the first Vibe, got a top up offer so we bought the 2nd. At those net prices it didn't make any sense to even consider used cars.

I must admit though we've quit using the GM card now. I will probably just buy used in the future. My wife and I each are putting only 7,000 or 8,000 miles per year on our cars. Can buy several years old with maybe 40K miles on it and still easily get 10-15 years of reliable service.

Wow, now those are some great deals. I paid $13,900 for my son's 06 back in 08, it was 18 months old GM certified with 7K miles and I thought it was a decent deal considering the sticker was about $18K. Then I paid $12,400 in Dec 11 for my 10 GT, it was a little over 2 yrs old with 36K miles. It is still the best price I've found on anything comparable, but it did come with a few damaged interior items that I still need to fix that will cost about $400 or so.

23K brand new in 2004. Full accessory package including upper and lower wings, side skirts, front body kit, 5 speed 1.8L, sun roof, roof rack, upgraded sound system (which was horrible; thank god I was a car stereo tech) car had badges named "Vibe Sport".

Oops - must have missed the Illinois location below your user name. I had never heard of "Vibe Sport" - thought it might be a Canadian version.

Nope. My buddy who was my salesman on it drove all the way to Indianapolis to get it because he said it could be rare. I don't think it is though.

in December 2009, I bought a 2009 Vibe 2.4 w/ 5sp auto (wanted a stick, but sobeit), A/C, a rack (it was there) but I insisted on them throwing in a luggage cover (to feel like I got something ;) )
It had 142 miles on it.
Listed at 21550 w/ tax/delievery, paid $15100. Not terrible

Hi, new here. Been doing a lot of reading on this great forum. Have been shopping for a 2009 GT for the past month or so. After reading the posts in this thread, it seems the best deals were when the car was new. I've been to or contacted a few dealers and they don't want to bargain more than a few hundred under their listed prices. $16900 would only go to 16400.. 15900 would only go to 15400...... both similar.....GT with moons and tunes.....less than 50k miles.....Some of the vehicles have been listed for six months or more. They all claim they can't take a "loss" when I offered 13500- 14200 out the door price.
I'll keep trying.. Just looking for another Pontiac to park next to my 07 Grand Prix GXP!

Welcome and I wish you the best of luck locating what you want for at a FAIR price. List your location under your profile so us other members will know your geographical location. Knowing this could be extremely beneficial to you as we look out for each other here ;) Many members have networked around one's location and found cars, parts, service, etc. for a GenVibe member and it was greatly appreciated. BTW ... The two Vibe GT's in my sig are NOT for sale  My red one (5-speed manual) was purchased new. The Blue one (my son's automatic) was purchased 4-30-2011 with 35k miles on it and paid $13,100.00 for it. A very good price at that time. Nobody is touching the wife's G8 GT

Dealers know they are "hot items" and will hold out for that high price. You'll be better off finding one at an auction or private seller.

Let us know more about you so we can help you find :)
