My folks had a 1980 Tercel(looks like the silver one in first pic) Those European versions look good, I remember on our old 1980 Tercel the front and back bumpers were made of nasty looking black rubber material that stuck out a good 5 inches or so. The one in the pic looks like a normal bumper. I remember for years thinking that car was ugly due to the bumper and wondered why Toyota would do that. Now I realized that it was yet another instance of the U.S. Dept of transportation meddling with car design. It kind of reminds me of when I read that it took forever to get USDOT to revise the rules for euro style headlights instead of those sealed beam ones. I wonder if some of the old fossils that are working in USDOT think the perfect car is the Model T?
