Holy Crap Our Cars are Valuable!

Post by Whelan »

I did a KBB check a few months back and found my car was worth the 4-6k range (2005 Matrix XR AWD, 130,000 miles). I have heard that used-cars have hit a rare peak recently and checked again tonight.Private Party in Good condition ($8,890)WOW

It is crazy what they are asking for used cars. Economics are even more in favor of buying new.

I'm curbing my enthusiasm about KBB pricing, namely because I can't believe it (even though I known used car prices are through the roof):2005 AWD w/60K in excellent condition:Retail: $13,115Private: $11,415But on the other hand, I just sold my '97 Grand Caravan w/168K miles for $2500 cash; paid $2200 for it in '09. I washed & waxed it last weekend, put it up for sale on Wednesday, had a couple of dozen calls through yesterday and sold it last night. Now I'm sort of kicking myself for not holding out for $3K!

Holy crap is right!Mine is valued at $14,700 for private sale.I only paid a little over $11,000 tax title and everything out the door new! When I bought mine the rebates and incentives were great together with Uncle Sam's Cash for Clunkers. I traded in a 1996 Grand Marquis with a value of $600 and got $4,000.

You can thank toyota for the high resale. We just bought ours and the Vibe is way more money than any other GM car!

Whelan, Thanks for sharing this good news about the Vibes holding their value. I wondered what would happen to the value since they stopped building Vibes. I just checked the kbb.com site and my faithful 2004 w low mileage is currently worth $8220 from a private buyer and $6500 trade in value. Maybe more cause its Fusion orange . But its NFS.

I knew it already, but it's nice to see a dollar figure to confirm I'm nicely above water on my '08 Can't wait to get clear of those payments!

You got to remember one thing though - You still have to convince someone that $8K is worth it... for something 6+ years old with over 100000miles!

I recently saw a 2003 with 50-something thousand on the clock, they wanted $10k for the thing. A very basic 2010 with auto and 35k, listed for almost $16k. 2010 GT with 17k - $21,700. No good deals on Vibes or anything else used for that matter. Good time to sell used, buy new...

That's when we bought our 09 GT w/36k miles for $13100 before any of this nonsense started to take over

I just checked KBB a month ago, and my little 2004 Lava Vibe has gone up over $1000 in value in two years. I asked a used-car dealer friend about this, and they said, "when we get a Vibe in, we can't keep it on the lot"!!!!!!!! Vibe Power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
