My challenge: Your car and either a sign posting a <20mph speed limit (extra points if it doesn't end in 0 or 5) or a "Share the road" sign.

I may be able to get a suitable pic for this challenge. I may try for it tonight.

(BTW: I love this sort of game... I've played something similar on another forum, but there weren't enough people active to keep it going.)

Here's my attempt at meeting the challenge. I wasn't able to get the Vibe itself onto the pier, but I backed it up onto the walkway leading to it.

Challenge met?

Ok, here's the new challenge: You're Vibe with a historical highway marker. If I have my facts right, this monument was a highway marker on the Old Dixie Highway here in Florida. The portion of the road that this marker is on is still paved with the original bricks, though in horrible disrepair.

Was the challenge too hard? Do I need to simplify it?
How about this: I'll settle for any sort of sign (or monument) indicating an old, deprecated or historic road.

The challenges aren't hard. It's just generally difficult sometimes to be at the correct place, with camera, and have the opportunity to take said picture. Unless of course, your sole purpose of that day is traveling to get said pic... and that takes a lot of time that most people just don't have.

Hard, challenging pics, take time to get answered. Bump the thread occasionally, sooner or later someone will take an awesome pic and respond with a fun challenge!

Road Trip today, so have two pictures for consideration.
First is monument to Wyandot Indian Chief Tarhe. A true statesman, negotiated peace between several Indian Tribes and the settlers. The nearby roadway is called the Tarhe Trail.

The 2nd is a monument marking part of the First Transcontinental US Highway, the Lincoln Highway, US 30
Link to its history, a fascinating read, considering the road was sponsored in 1913 by Automotive Suppliers and Car company's to promote roadways for automobiles. Few months ago marked the 100th anniversary. A sight to see, as era correct vehicles made the trip from coast to coast over the original path

Next Challenge, Vibe next to a historic Covered Roadway (preferably built before 1920, bonus if constructed prior to 1900):

Crap, the only covered bridge in my area (heck, only one in Minnesota) is well over an hour away.

I want to bump this back to the top.

There aren't many covered bridges around here. The ones we have are pedestrian only... and mostly on golf courses. You'd probably be hard pressed to find much of *anything* built before 1920, too, let alone a covered bridge.

 Perhaps this could help someone: http://www.coveredbridgemap.com/

Define "Covered." Would a lower bridge deck hanging from the upper span suffice?

Realizing that covered bridges are more common in the eastern US, any covered roadway is fine. So a lower span would be covered by the upper roadway.

Perhaps we should require that when posting a new challenge you must also post an ongoing list of all previous challenges so it's easier for everyone to keep up on what has already been done. Maybe, just maybe, this will revive this thread and get it going full speed again.

In my version of this on the Sonic thread, I made it a rule that you have to post the new challenge with the answer in the same post. The game rolls faster because you dont have to wait for it to be OKd, just go for it.

Are we worried about challenges that have been done before? I mean, if a different member does them, I don't see a big deal, as long as it wasn't real close.

The challenge: Your vehicle in assistance mode!

i win....

friends NB broke down near me when i was at the store nearby so i went to go and help and we ripped the engine bay apart with all the tools i had in my trunk for like an hour and still couldnt figure out why wasn't it starting. MAF/intake was fine, it had fuel in the lines, battery was good, spark plugs were new. it just died (hes a mechanic at a speed shop which specializes in mazda's only which makes it slightly more awkward) So we just decided to flat tow it with my tow strap i had to his house which was 5 miles away at like 5pm when everybody was getting off work through traffic and up and down hills the back way to his house. We made it no problems. lol, and it ended up being a bad o2 sensor. The girl pictured covering her face was his gf that just came back from college outta state the day before. She was pretty embarrassed.

vibe took it like a champ too, held it in first at like 3k rpms going around 30mph give or take on the straight aways.

That's rather impressive! Is your Vibe an auto or manual?

If you want, you can make the new challenge. After that, I think we need to follow Alicia's rule of 'new challenge in the responding post' thing. It's worked out well on the Sonic forum...

Auto-tragic, i gear control whenever driving hard in the canyons though because our cars need the help of engine braking with our silly rear drums. but thankfully its still under 2800lbs so i have chance to be comparable to the other cars with 3x the power in the twisties.

wasn't sure what alicia meant by responding to a post but heres my challenge,

Take a picture of you car sitting in traffic.... on the fwy.

(i live in the LA area so i could most likely do this by the end of the week with how much traffic there is here)

Use this thread as a little reference - The post at the top by Alicia (Insanika) has her responding to the challenge, then making her own, in the same exact post. You need to post your picture in order to start your challenge.

Its been three months since the last challenge of a picture of your car in traffic.

In order to reboot this thread, I presume the authority to declare that the previous challenge of your car in traffic is void, and the next challenge will be up to whoever first posts another challenge

NEW CHALLENGE

Your car and a current or former car assembly plant. If it is former it must have some sign that it was once there.

In my case, I literally have a sign. This is the site of the former Ford Twin Cities Assembly plant, which had stood here since the days when it was built to produce the Model A.

Image

Driving by it over the winter I slowly saw the final building come down. It was creepy and fascinating at the same time.

What if there are no local "automobile" assembly plants close by? would any vehicle assembly plant do?
