I did a search and didn't see any real dedicated threads where we can share our gas mileage, so I figured I'd start one to kind of coincide with the "Price You Paid For Gas" thread and the current fuel efficiency/high gas price trend. In the past few weeks I have made a conscious effort to make slight changes to my driving habits to see if, and how much, it would affect my gas mileage. Instead of driving 60 on my way to and from work (country roads), I've been driving 55. I also drove 55 on a recent short road trip on Interstate 88. I have also been trying very hard to not let the RPMs get above 2500 when accelerating. As long as you don't mash the gas pedal, it's actually pretty easy to keep it under 2500. In my opinion the numbers have been very impressive so far.2009 Vibe GT 2.4L 5-Speed Shiftable Automatic with a K&N Typhoon CAI and AEM Dry Flow air filter (intake and filter were added July 19, 2009)05.26.11 - 30.6 mpg - 50% city/50% highway05.19.11 - 28.0 mpg - 50% city/50% highway05.15.11 - 29.4 mpg - 50% city/50% highway05.06.11 - 26.5 mpg - 50% city/50% highway04.23.11 - 25.9 mpg - 50% city/50% highway04.13.11 - 26.8 mpg - 50% city/50% highway04.01.11 - 25.8 mpg - 50% city/50% highway03.20.11 - 27.5 mpg - 50% city/50% highway03.13.11 - 27.3 mpg - 50% city/50% highway03.07.11 - 27.4 mpg - 50% city/50% highway03.02.11 - 26.5 mpg - 50% city/50% highway02.21.11 - 28.5 mpg - 50% city/50% highway02.13.11 - 23.7 mpg - 50% city/50% highway01.30.11 - 25.2 mpg - 50% city/50% highway01.22.11 - 25.3 mpg - 50% city/50% highway* 01.14.11 - 23.0 mpg - 50% city/50% highway - LOWEST *12.31.10 - 25.8 mpg - 50% city/50% highway12.23.10 - 25.3 mpg - 50% city/50% highway12.18.10 - 24.3 mpg - 50% city/50% highway12.10.10 - 25.6 mpg - 50% city/50% highway12.04.10 - 25.4 mpg - 50% city/50% highway11.26.10 - 26.2 mpg - 50% city/50% highway11.15.10 - 28.1 mpg - 50% city/50% highway11.04.10 - 25.7 mpg - 50% city/50% highway10.26.10 - 28.1 mpg - 50% city/50% highway10.18.10 - 29.7 mpg - 50% city/50% highway10.12.10 - 27.9 mpg - 50% city/50% highway10.04.10 - 30.3 mpg - 30% city/70% highway09.29.10 - 29.1 mpg - 50% city/50% highway09.22.10 - 29.7 mpg - 50% city/50% highway09.17.10 - 27.2 mpg - 50% city/50% highway09.12.10 - 29.1 mpg - 50% city/50% highway09.03.10 - 26.7 mpg - 50% city/50% highway08.24.10 - 27.4 mpg - 50% city/50% highway08.10.10 - 27.5 mpg - 50% city/50% highway07.18.10 - 33.7 mpg - 10% city/90% highway07.18.10 - 31.2 mpg - 20% city/80% highway07.14.10 - 26.1 mpg - 50% city/50% highway06.24.10 - 28.1 mpg - 50% city/50% highway06.18.10 - 27.7 mpg - 50% city/50% highway06.03.10 - 28.4 mpg - 50% city/50% highway* 05.22.10 - 33.9 mpg - 10% city/90% highway - HIGHEST *05.21.10 - 28.0 mpg - 50% city/50% highway05.11.10 - 27.9 mpg - 50% city/50% highwayOut of the above fillups, my overall average is 27.6 mpg. EPA combined rating is 24 mpg.Although I did calculate my mileage every time I filled up before May 11, 2010, I didn't keep track of it anywhere .In case anyone doesn't know how to calculate gas mileage, here's how you do it... number of miles on the trip odometer divided by number of gallons. Example: 290.6 miles divided by 9.467 gallons = 30.6 mpgIt helps if you get a receipt and then write down your odometer and trip odometer mileages. It's pretty fun and interesting to keep track of your gas mileage and to see how making even slight changes to your driving habits can have a noticeable positive effect on your mileage. Fuelly and MPG Tune are two great sites (that I personally use) to keep track of gas mileage.* Please include your year, trim level, engine, transmission and any engine modifications that would effect gas mileage, in addition to the percentage of city and highway driving * Now... let's see those impressive numbers !

Now Carrie ...... nothing against the "other" gender on this earth, but my WIFE drove the Vibe during most of the winter so her G8 GT wouldn't see snow/salt Thus the poor numbers. She complains about the clutch & shifting with "dress shoes" on. I tell her to drive with sneakers on instead and then change into dress shoes. Almost all women who work in downtown locations, and require a lot of walking to their destination, do this to keep their feet comfy

I haven't kept record for the vibe but on my previous car, a 2002 nissan maxima, I kept record of every fill up for a couple of years and it was interesting to see now what I've been getting back then lolAs you can see, around June and July 2008 gas price was crazy high so I decided I must get a more gas efficient car lolDate/$gallon/total$/miles/gallons/mpgAs for the vibe, I think the lowest I got was 19'ish mpg and that was 100% city driving. Best I got was 29'ish mpg when I used to drive 36 miles to and back from work each day. I now average about 21-23 mpg with mostly city driving and only occasional fwy driving.
Here's my quick stats on my 2008 Vibe, 1.8L base engine, automatic, no mods:• 31133 total miles since I purchased it• 28.4 mpg average for those total miles• Best economy on one tank - 33.9 mpg• Worst economy on one tank - 23.9 mpg

Looking at this thread, I feel a bit better about my mileage. Although i track my mileage just about every time I fill up, I didn't keep a journal of them. On my 60% hwy/40% local suburban road driving, lately I've been getting 27.9 mpg (with Wawa gas, no less!). Nice upgrade from the local Valero...and I get to go over 300 miles before filling up and getting the warning light, heh.Usually I get around 25-26 mpg, with 24.x being on the low end...anything lower than that raises my eyebrows. My driving style is spirited at times. Since I started taking the "local streets" home from work instead of the Turnpike, i think my mileage increased. It's a much longer ride, but more peaceful and I travel at a lower rate of speed (not to mention it's toll free as well!).

Not real attentive to this, but on a trip from here in northern Illinois to western Massachusetts and back again from 5/11 - 5/17... lots of construction delays on I-90 along the way... mostly highway, with some urban driving, averaged 30.06 MPG.

According to my husband (who has stolen my car for a few days) my latest gas mileage turned out to be at or over 29mpg! This includes city driving, including Chicago rush hour traffic on the highway! I was very proud. I want to say it's around 50/50 but it might be 60/40 in favor of the highway. Keeping my RPMs low is really working!! As is taking my foot off the gas whenever possible. Somehow managing to achieve this even with average highway speeds of 70mph and average street speeds of 35-40mph with lots of stoplights!

I have been trying to keep the RPMs under 2500 and it has worked really well for me too. Unfortunately my last fillup kind of sucked because I had removed the intake to take it to the dealer this past Friday (I need to put it back on today. It's no fun driving without it.) and yesterday I used the air quite a bit because I had my grandma with me. Hopefully my next fillup will be back up around 29.

34 mpg with the ac on all the time. I'm about 80% highway. I always get great mileage in the summer. I don't know if my car likes the hrat, or if it's the summer gas.
"Don't look to the government to solve your problems, the government is the problem." Ronald Reagan"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." Ben Franklin.
I cannot believe it too. Are you paying someone to push your car while doing city driving.....maybe one of those "catch a ride skateboarders"???? I just got back from NYC. In all highway driving with the a/c on, I got 36 mpg while in no particular hurry. I got 30 mpg in bumper to bumper NYC traffic (30%) and highway driving home (70%) done between 75-85 (always in a hurry to get home). While the Corolla engine hums at 80-85, it gets very thirsty at that speed I have noticed.
I think the difference is that our highway driving was more in the 65-70mph speeds, rather than faster. But it's still crazy, considering the amount of stop and go driving on that tank! But I've really changed my driving habits to keep low RPMs, more "foot off the gas", and not too much A/C (though it did run on that tank). Tires are all filled normally, I bet the K&N intake is helping boost MPGs too now that I'm not flooring it! Once I clean the K&N filter and the MAF sensor, it should be even better (at least a tiny bit). About to leave for Indianapolis, I'll see how it fares with a speed limit of 70mph on I65 (where people typically drive 75-80mph)

I get closer to 30 when I stick to 60-65 on the regular highways/ back highways but when I get on the interstate, esp I-80 where I can do 75-80, I get dang close to 37... I don't drive my little 10 year old car that fast in the heat with the AC going though, I keep it around 65.
my last 2 tanks have been 30.4 and 30.6 mpg! Pretty good for the GT model! probably about 70/30 highway/local. However, most of my highway driving, i am stuck in rush hour traffic.
My current tank should yield pretty good numbers as I had a little more highway driving. I had a doctor's appointment in the suburbs of Chicago and drove with the cruise control set at 55 the entire way on I 88. People were passing me left and right, including semis, but I know it will be worth it when I get gas again and figure out my mpgs.It was great. I was able to have all the windows and sunroof open. I used the cruise control as much as possible. There was a span of about 30 minutes when I didn't have to touch the brake or the gas or cancel the cruise control. It was awesome! Although I certainly wouldn't want to drive in that craziness everyday .

Just a hair over 40MPG on my last tank with 80high/20city on 91 octane gas in very warm weather and no AC to turn on lol. Trying to find regular 87 octane with no ethanol content is almost impossible here. Can't seem to get this mileage with ethanol content fuel. Shifts are max 2500rpm, foot off the throttle and coast, in gear of course, as much as possible, tires @ 35PSI, synthetic 5w20 and keep any highway trip within city limits to 50-55MPH MAX.
