tragic crash and loss of life in Altoona, Ia

Post by 10vibe »

Tragic. Condolences to the Wells' family. Do not know if he was a Genvibe member.http://wcfcourier.com/news/loc....htmlE ... r...crash/ This one is heart wrenching. Tells more of his life and that he was a father of two, played in a band, and that his wife pulled up to the wreck a few minutes later on her way to work.

Horrible accident that didn't have to happen. Loss of life tragic. May not be the place, but I've seen plenty of these crashes at busy intersections. Running red lights is at epidemic levels. Don't assume that because your light is green, that it's safe to go through an intersection. There are so many distracted drivers out there. Phone calls, heated conversations, texting. I see way too much of that. Please do your best to look and make sure that all traffic is actually stopped before you move on through any intersection. Staying alert will give you a fighting chance to avoid tragedy. Stay focussed on what you are doing as you drive and what's happening around you. It's hard to do, but it really is important. It's tough to fathom what would make a young person do something like this. A good student, a good athlete. He destroyed a family by his recklessness and his own future. Unbelievably horrible.

Gosh this is definitely a tragic incident, and didn't need to happen at all. I do agree about looking before entering an intersection, regardless of if you have the green or not. I know it has saved me from an accident or too, both as a driver and as a pedestrian. My condolences to the family for their loss.

Man, that's really sad . Often times the person who did nothing to deserve it is the one who dies in these situations

updatehttp://wcfcourier.com/news/loc....htmlQuote »WATERLOO, Iowa --- Sentencing has been set for February for a Waterloo teen accused of killing a man in during a crash in a stolen vehicle in Altoona.Dajour Dupree Sawyers, 19, faces up to 35 years behind bars after he entered Alford pleas of guilt to charges of homicide by vehicle and first-degree theft in Polk County District Court on Dec. 22, according to court officials. He didn't admit to any wrongdoing but contended he would likely be convicted if the matter went to trial.Sawyers faces up to 25 years in prison for the homicide charge and up to 10 years for theft. Other charges, including burglary, were dropped as part of the plea.Authorities allege Sawyers was driving a stolen sport utility vehicle and was under the influence when the SUV collided with a car after running a red light. The other driver, 36-year-old Chad Wells of Altoona, died in the crash.Authorities found Sawyers barefoot in the garage of an Altoona home a short time later, and he allegedly smelled of marijuana, police said.In the spring, Sawyers underwent a psychiatric evaluation where it was determined he was competent to stand trial.Sawyers remains in the Polk County Jail.a pic of the crash:

This one hurts to read, again. Not to hijack the topic, but I'm glad the accused will be behind bars for a long time. In Canada, he'd be out of prison in 8 years (tops), with a taxpayer funded university education.

But from the looks of it that might not have been a lot of help. The 19 year old driver probably was not insured - I hope he had generous uninsured motorist coverage. That would help take care of his family.

Extremely sad 35 years maximum ??? Are you kidding me! It should be 350 years. I have no mercy for these type of individuals who "gamble" just for a cheap thrill. We all end up losing in these situations

What a horrible, horrible tragedy. The killer's school may have him listed as an honor student, but to me he's as dumb - and vicious - as they come. It will never happen in our so-called civilized society, but this is one time I would love to see the 'eye for an eye' occur. Put him in a car in the middle of an intersection and have somebody drive at the same speed towards him. He deserves it.Folks, I'm not usually this mean, but sometimes things happen that put me over the edge. This is one of them and I have no mercy for these lowlifes.

There goes the "you've never seen any one get stoned and kill some one driving" argument... Sucks that innocent people have to be involved in others stupidity...

Bump. That is a very chilling and saddening scene. May he RIP and his family find closure. And I am glad to hear the kid got jail time. What a sad story! Really puts life in perspective. Drive safe my friends and always be aware of your surroundings.

That's so sad. It would be so awful to be his wife and drive up to see that.
