So this is an addition to the earlier post i made about the roof rails. So last night a buddy and i decided to take apart the roof rails and paint the front and back caps, rail flat black. Thanks to all the GenVibers that posted topics on how to remove the rails. Removing them only took 15min. I had already bought the 6 retainer clips knowing i was gonna need them. Put a nice flat gray primer coat on the caps, then on the rail. after waiting 30 minutes and a couple pizza rolls i was ready to assemble the passenger side. It took us so long to do this. We started at 10pm and ended at 1am. after all the caps and rails being painted i thought of an idea, since my theme for my car is Flat Black and Red. Why not paint the back bumper flat back. Thanks to smeadows7 for this killer idea. My car looks so much meaner from the back end. Ill post pictures as soon as i can, i got 4hrs sleep. we ended up finishing at around 3:40amhttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=39877
about a month ago I priced getting that part of my bumper wrapped in flat black vinyl and they said $40 for that and the middle lower part of the front. This kinda makes me wanna paint it tho.
Did you tape all that off and sand it any? I would assume maybe some 600grit to get the "shine" off and then prep and paint it.Maybe flat clear coat then wet sand it some? What kind of paint did you use? (pic of the can?)
Gosh! That looks really good! For the roof rails, it really mends with the regular black rack holder (?). I do like it!Since you say you are applying another coat, I guess you will make the rear bumper shiny? Anyhoo, it looks really nice! Makes me think of doing it to my Vibe...one day.

Actually all I did was clean the surface really well. Tapped it off and put a base gray primer coat on it. Waited until about an hour and then but a coat of rustolieum high performance enamel (flat black). I didn't sand it cause I was afraid it would look too grainy and fragile after I'd sand it. So I just preped and painted.
Thanks Bastranz. I'm applying a second coat of flat black, to make it a little darker. Its still gonnna be flat looking. That's my whole theme. Flat black and red
ok, ok... makes sense. Well the end result is nice. You said one more coat, so I guess you haven't done a clear coat yet. Plan on doin a flat clear?EDIT: is this what you used?
Thank you sgp. i just went to autozone and purchased Meguiar's clay bar kit and Nxt liquid wax kit. im really excited to do this. anyone use these products yet? let me know your opinions and experiences with them.
